Marge Compfort, loving mother and grandmother

St. Petersburg, FL- Marge Compfort, 97, formerly of Olean, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, at the Tierra Pines in Largo, FL, surrounded by loving family.

Born in Olean on February 27, 1928, the daughter of the late John and Helen Samaranda Cappelletti. On March 15, 1953, she married John E. Compfort, who passed away on October 29, 2002.

Marge graduated from Olean High School in 1946. She was an active member of the Home Bureau from Cornell University and the Quilters from Olean, where she enjoyed quilting, sewing, crafts, and crocheting. Marge would make kitchen scrubbies that everyone loved. The group learned how to reupholster dining chairs, then had a progressive dinner, allowing everyone to show off their work. She had a love of travel and, well into her late 80s, fulfilled her dream of visiting Israel and Egypt.

Surviving are her son, Robert Compfort of St. Petersburg, FL; a granddaughter, Amber Chiappetta; and five grandchildren.

Marge was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, John and Helen; a grandson, Brooks Compfort; two brothers, John Cappelletti and Vince Cappelletti from Olean; and a sister, Mary Cappelletti McCready of Manitou Springs, CO.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, at 10 am, at St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Allegany.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Higher Ground Women’s Recovery Center HGWRR, P.O. Box 3, Pennington Gap, VA 24277, or https://hgwrr.org/, a charity close to her heart, after losing a grandson to an opioid addiction.

Arrangements are under the direction of Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences may be expressed at www.guentherfh.com
