WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Warriors girl’s soccer falls to league-leading Randolph; Panthers, Lady Gators, Lady Terrors volleyball sweep mid-week

RANDOLPH, NY – Despite holding possession for the majority of the game, the Salamanca girl’s soccer team were unable to counter on defense, giving up a 5-2 loss in their second Chautauqua Cattaraugus Athletic Association Division 2 matchup to top-ranked Randolph. 

Both of the Warriors’ goals came early. Ireland Fidurko would open the scoring for Salamanca in the 12th minute before Arleigh Chudy added to their lead with another goal just over seven minutes later. However, Randolph would respond with a flurry of goals that shot them in front. Unable to mount a comeback, Salamanca fell to 2-5 on the season. 

In goal, Kendra Bova Redeye faced 17 shots and came away with 12 saves through 80 minutes. 

Up next, Salamanca will see four more league opponents before a rematch with Randolph on Monday, Oct. 6. Their next contest will be on Monday against Ellicottville (2-3 overall, 1-1 in league) in a game at home slated for 6:30 p.m.

Bradford 9, Franklin 0

BRADFORD, PA – Led by another hat trick from their star Alyssa Mangold, the Lady Owls added another win to their record with a shutout victory over Franklin.

Mangold was one of five Lady Owls to find the back of the net in Bradford’s fourth win, scoring three times herself and dishing out three more assists. Karissa Chamberlain and Maddi Rimer both ended the night with two goals while Cami Sheely and Rylie Corbett each tallied a goal and an assist. Jaydon Hogue also had an assist while Maddy Stark and Adeline Meyer combined for two saves. 

Southwestern 5, Olean 0

OLEAN, NY – Seeing a second consecutive shutout loss at home, the Huskies drop to 1-5-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in CCAA Div. 1 play.

Up next, Olean will leave their home field for a two-game road trip against Fredonia on Monday and Allegany-Limestone next Friday. 

Volleyball

Port Allegany 3, Oswayo Valley 0

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – The Lady Gators’ maintained their place atop the North Tier League with a win on their home court, beating the Lady Green Wave 27-25, 25-14 and 25-21. 

In her 1,500th career set, Isla Lehmier recorded 26 assists and four kills while Peyton Gordon dominated from the service line with 15 aces, also grabbing three kills. Lily Lehmier and Jenna Renner both had 13 kills in the win, combining for five digs.

Portville 3, Jamestown 0

PORTVILLE, NY — Continuing to dominate their regular season schedule, the Panthers made quick work of the Eagles, winning 25-7, 25-9 and 25-7.

Ali Haynes carried Portville through the win, recording 15 kills, two aces, eight digs and a block. Addie Walker ran the offense with 30 assists while Gaitley Maiolo recorded 10 kills and a block.

Otto-Eldred 3, Smethport 0

SMETHPORT, PA – The Lady Terrors kept their undefeated league streak alive with another sweep, winning 25-23, 25-14 and 25-17 over the Lady Hubbers. 

Jahden Smith recorded 17 points, two kills, five assists and three digs alongside Rayel Hakes’ 12 points, three blocks, six kills and six digs. Emma Button racked up 15 assists while Baylee Francis totaled seven kills and eight digs. 

Olean 3, Fredonia 1

FREDONIA, NY — Olean stretched their win streak to three with a road win that saw three Huskies end with double-digit kills.

Ava Moses led the pack with 13 kills while Haylie Bednarski and Elizabeth Bailey had 13 and 11, respectively. Bednarski also tallied 13 digs alongside Viktoriia Lozynska had nine kills. Ariana Finch facilitated the offense, ending with 38 assists, seven aces and nine digs.

Girls Tennis

Frewsburg 4, Salamanca 0

SALAMANCA, NY – The Warriors suffered their eighth loss of the season as they fell in a sweep to Frewsburg. 

Emma Prey and Betsey Leyva took to the courts in the first and second singles, however, were unable to tally more than two points per set, falling 6-0, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively. In the first doubles, Sage Hugg teamed up with Delaney Jordan but were topped by Olivia Grey and Mackenzie Lobb 6-3 and 6-3. Fiona Mckune and Mya Woods were also dispatched by the Bears, losing in the second doubles 6-3 and 6-0. 

Women’s Soccer

Hiram 5, Pitt-Bradford 0

HIRAM, OH – Three goals in the first and two more in the second half sunk the Panthers as they recorded their fourth consecutive loss of the season. 

After 13 scoreless minutes, Hiram broke the stalemate with a goal from Bella Simmons. They would tack on two more, one in the 18th minute from Jada Neal and another from Ava Little, before solidifying their win with a pair in the 52nd and 55th minute. 

In goal for Pitt-Bradford, Josie Orinko ended with three saves.
