COUDERSPORT, PA — Finally breaking the seal of the season, the Port United boy’s soccer team earned their first win of the year with a 2-0 victory over Coudersport.
The Gators lucked out early after a Coudy penalty shot ricocheted off the crossbar. Then, Alex Schott scooped up an errant pass by the Falcon’s defense before finding the back of the net in the 17th minute. Nearly 50 minutes later, Schott added to his resume with a second goal on a direct kick. In goal, Port’s Aiden Stuckey had two saves for his first win and shutout.
Silver Creek/Forestville 6, Salamanca 2
SILVER CREEK, NY — Despite finding their footing in the second half, the Warriors were unable to comeback from an early 5-0 deficit, falling to 0-2 on the season.
Salamanca’s two goals came from Easton Chudy off an assist from Darren Hayes before Taylor Hayes found the back of the net via penalty kick.
The Warriors now go back to the drawing board as they enjoy a five-day respite before playing Chautauqua Lake on Tuesday.
GIRLS SOCCER
Bradford 8, Brockway 1
BRADFORD, PA — Six Lady Owls scored as they dominated Brockway in a blowout win that saw Alyssa Mangold record yet another hat trick.
Alongside her score, Mangold tallied two assists while Karissa Chamberlain recorded four assists, also finding the back of the net once. Kierstin Taylor, Cami Sheely, Eliana Keller and Maddy Rimer all also scored during the win. In goal, Adeline Meyer ended with three saves.
Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale 2, Olean 1
CUBA, NY — Mallory Carter scored the lone goal for the Olean girls soccer team as it suffered its second defeat of the season on the road at Cuba-Rushford/Hinsdale.
Alaina Hirliman made seven saves in net for the Huskies.
Westfield/Brocton 1, Salamanca 0
WESTFIELD, NY — The Warriors’ losing streak continued with a third consecutive loss.
In goal, Kendra Bova Redeye finished with two saves for Salamanca.

COUDERSPORT, PA — Facing another North Tier League opponent in back-to-back nights, the Lady Gators earned another win in the form of a sweep, winning 25-13 three times in a row.

DUNKIRK, NY — After eight days since their season-opening contest, the Panthers earned their second win of the season, this time coming in a sweep against the Marauders.
SWIM AND DIVE
Salamanca 126, Chautauqua Lake 43
MAYVILLE, NY — The Salamanca girls swim and dive team got its season underway with a convincing win on the road against Chautauqua Lake.
Senior captain Charli Ross led the way for the Warriors, capturing victory in both the 500m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke, setting a PR in the latter event.
Alongside Ross, Addison Follman won the 200m IM, scoring a nine-second PR there, and the 100m freestyle. Kynleigh Wass won the 100m backstroke with a three-second PR and the 100m butterfly. Lily John earned her first varsity win in the 50m freestyle, Julianna Smith won the 200m freestyle, and Rileigh Hutchison took first in diving.
The 200m medley relay team of John, Ava Chris, Follman and Alexa Reed, and the 400m freestyle relay team of Anna Martens, Lori Pierce, Reed and Wass both took first as well.
“This team has some lofty goals and it appears they are willing to put in the effort that it requires to achieve them,” coach Laurie Lafferty-John said. “We expect some challenges along the way, but they are keeping their eyes on the prize for the postseason achievements. We have some tough meets going into next week with Fredonia/Dunkirk and Frewsburg/Falconer, both combined teams. Regardless of the teams’ points (those meets) will build our mental toughness and help us to get where we want to be. We are looking forward to it.”
