Early voting in Cattaraugus County got off to a good start Saturday, with more than 300 casting ballots in three hours before noon at sites in Olean and Little Valley.
Republican Election Commissioner Cortney Spittler said voters were waiting in line outside the Magnano Room in the Cutco Building at Jamestown Community College in Olean Saturday when the polls opened at 9 a.m.
Election officials said that there were 200 voters in Olean and 100 in Little Valley during the first three hours.
“People were waiting for the polls to open,” Spittler said. “Everyone was very excited.” For most of the morning, there was a steady line of early voters at the Olean site, she said.

The other early voting site maintained by the Board of Elections is in the gymnasium at the former Little Valley Elementary School on Rock City Street.
“We’ve had a couple of first-time voters,” when someone reported they were casting their first ballot. Spittler commented to the Olean Star. Each time, there was a round of clapping.
There are eight more days of early voting in the county. Today (Sunday), polls are again open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Olean and Little Valley.
