TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Smethport baseball bows out of D9 playoffs; Gators softball open postseason drive with a blowout win

SUNBURY, PA — Playing in their first playoff game in four years, the Smethport baseball team was unable to further their season, falling to Moniteau 10-2. 

Finishing the regular season at 9-7, the Hubbers entered the District 9 Class 2A bracket as the seventh and final team, earning a meeting with No. 2 Moniteau. While their underdogs effort initially held strong, blanking the Warriors through the first, they were unable to repeat the feat from there on.

Collin Riekofsky ended 1-for-2 with one run scored while Cole Burdick finished 1-for-3. 

Smethport officially ends their season 9-8.

CLYMER, NY — Finding a surge in extra innings, the Warriors outlasted Clymer to close out their regular season with a dramatic win. 

Salamanca had four batters come up with multiple hits, an effort led by Calum Farnum and Payton Bradley. Along with his three strikeouts while on the mound, Farnum came away with three hits, three runs and an RBI during his six trips to the plate. Bradley ended 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored, while Madden Wolfe went 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. Conner Seeley recorded two hits during his three appearances in the batters’ box, tallying three runs and one RBI. 

The Warriors complete their regular season with a 9-11 record and now await the Section VI Class B playoffs.

ALLEGANY, NY — The Allegany-Limestone softball team’s offense was red-hot in its five-inning, Section 6 Class B First Round shutout of Newfane.

Summer Rhow (3-for-4, 2 runs, 5 RBI) and Peyton Truman (3-for-4, RBI) led the Gators with three-hit performances. Kailey Truman (2-for-2, 2 runs, 2 walks), Mel Hayes (2-for-3, run, RBI) and Kendall Lemon (2-for-2, run) each had multiple hits in the win as well.

Kailey Truman recorded eight strikeouts and allowed just two hits from the circle.

MIDDLEPORT, NY — The season has come to an end for the Salamanca softball team who fell on the road to Royalton-Hartland in the Section 6 Class B First Round.

It took nine innings to split the sides, but eventually it was the Rams who walked off the marathon of a game.

Charli Ross struck out seven batters in a full-game outing for the Warriors, giving up just five hits in the process.

Ross, Delaney Haley, Hadleigh Krug, Mae Bacelli and Ayla Newark each had a hit in the loss.

TRACK AND FIELD

Allegany-Limestone 113, West  Valley 22

WEST VALLEY, NY — Anaya Mickens led the Allegany-Limestone girls track and field team in its lopsided win over West Valley as a triple individual event winner.

Mickens captured first place in the 100m dash (14.1), long jump (13-7) and discus (99-2).

Cait Conroy also won multiple individual events for the Gators, placing first in the 100m hurdles (20.1) and 400m hurdles (1:17.4).

Maya Lyle-Hess (400m — 1:07.6), Maeve Finch (800m — 2:58.5), Maddie Hooper (200m — 31.3), Lila Sheehy (triple jump — 28-4), Leea Kopp (high jump — 4-8) and Jeanine Hover (pole vault — 7-0) each had individual wins as well.

A-L also swept the relay events. The 400m relay team of Aliyah Conner, Maddie Honeck, Lyle-Hess and Kopp recorded a time of 54.0. The 1,600m relay team of Finch, Conroy, Hover and Lyle-Hess finished with a time of 4:42.3. The 3,200m relay team of Elexa Duggan, Finch, Sheehy and Autumn Rae Odom finished in 12:41.6.
