 MONDAY ROUNDUP: Lady Gators soccer, volleyball pick up resounding season-opening wins

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – In their first taste of action, the Port United girl’s soccer team took home a heavy-handed win over Ridgway, defending The Swamp with a 4-1 victory.

Kylee Pelchy and Alayna Palmer led the show, each recorded two goals and finding one assist a-piece. On defense, Dana Clark tended the net with 19 saves. 

At 1-0, Port United takes to the road to face Eisenhower on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Boys Soccer

Ridgway 8, Port United 0

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Unable to stop the onslaught, the Gators saw their first game of the season end with a loss to the Elkers. 

After four days at the drawing board, Port will look to bounce back during their Saturday matinee in Kane at 1 p.m.

Volleyball

Port Allegany 3, Oswayo Valley 1

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Seeing a North Tier League right out of the gates, the Lady Gators made their way into the win column by tackling OV, winning in four. 

After dropping the first set of the night 26-24 to the Lady Green Wave, Port responded with two close-knit wins at 25-21 twice, before closing out the night with a 25-17 victory that sealed the night. 

Molly Barber ended with 28 assists and 11 serve points in the win, followed by Tessa Rendos with 25 serve points and 12 digs. Jaidyn Mahon came away with a team high 15 kills for the Lady Gators. 

Port now will enjoy a two-day break before seeing Northern Potter on Thursday. That game, which will take place in hostile territory, is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start.
