As the spring season enters the final stretch, the Port Allegany track and fields teams have found success not only in the form of wins and personal bests, but also by raising the bar on two long-standing program records.
On Saturday, April 25, competing at the Franklin Invitational, Ethan Tarbox set a new watermark in the discus. After standing uncontested for 48 years, Chip O’Malley’s record of 161-0 was ultimately bested as Tarbox recorded a throw of 164-8. Tarbox’s achievement came on his final attempt, sealing a first place finish for the Gators.
A week later, the Lady Gators took a turn at making history.
Taking to the lanes in the 4×400 meter relay at the Coudersport Invitational on Friday, May 1, the quartet of Isla Lehmier, Lily Lehmier, Alyssa Pelchy and Kylee Pelchy finished the race with a time of 4:15.06, surpassing a benchmark originally set in 1981 by Susan Babcock Healy, Lyndi Stayer Ackerman, Laurie Stayer Lathrop and Diane Spencer.

While the team in ’81’s record still stands as the North Tier League Championship record, the current Lady Gators will look to break that as well as they head to the championship meet on Friday, May 8.
