WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Pelchy stays hot as Port bests Keystone; Portville, Salamanca volleyball split Saturday action

KEYSTONE, PA — Continuing her goal-scoring streak, Kylee Pelchy nabbed the back of the net as she powered the Port United girl’s soccer team to a 2-0 win over Keystone.

Over the past handful of games, Pelchy’s name has wound up in the scoring column, tallying three in the Lady Gators’ 3-3 with St. Marys on Monday and another in their second-consecutive draw against Punxsutawney on Thursday. Against the Lady Panthers, it was no different. 

Alongside Pelchy’s one goal, Kailey Bartlett found the back of the net while she and Cassidy Szuba both tallied assists. The win brings Port back to 0.500, holding a 4-4-2 record. 

North Tonawanda 3, Allegany-Limestone 0

NORTH TONAWANDA, NY — The Gators suffered defeat No. 6 while on the road, falling to the Lumberjacks as they recorded their second shutout loss of the season. 

In goal for A-L, Kenna MacArthur recorded eight saves. 

BOYS SOCCER

Chautauqua Lake 9, Salamanca 1

CHAUTAUQUA, NY — Battling injuries and a lack of reserves, the Warriors’ struggled to contain the Eagles, who surged in the first half and only got hotter in the second.

Chautauqua Lake opened the game ready to score, finding the back of the four times through the first 40 minutes. In the next period of play, they floodgates continue to open, producing five more scores. 

A silver lining on the night came from De’Jiyah Blunt, who scored his first-ever varsity career goal. 

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Portville 3, Fredonia 0

PORTVILLE, NY — The Portville girls volleyball team added another tally into the win column this season with a 25-10, 25-10, 25-15 sweep over Fredonia.

Leading the Panthers was Ali Haynes, who finished with 20 kills, three digs, two aces and a block. Alongside her, Addie Walker had three kills, five digs, two aces and 29 assists, Mia Rhinehart had 19 digs, Gaitley Maiolo had seven kills, Maddy Ford finished with seven digs and two aces and Leigha Stives recorded two blocks, one kills and four digs.

Panama 3, Salamanca 0

SALAMANCA, NY — The Salamanca girls volleyball team were swept by Panama over the weekend by set scores of 24-26, 22-25, and 13-25.

Liana Jimerson recorded six assists and Maliah Foster tallied five aces for the Warriors. For Panama, Lilly Hyde had 10 kills and four aces.

CROSS COUNTRY

Allegany-Limestone @ East Aurora

EAST AURORA, NY — Competing at East Aurora over the weekend, the Allegany-Limestone boys cross country team was led by a top-five finish from Nolan Wilczewski.

With a time of 16 minutes flat, Wilczewski placed fourth overall at the meet and was the highest-placing Gator on either the boys or girls team. Other finishers for the boys included Aiden Grimes (102nd, 22:03), Ronin Haseley (132nd, 27:04), and Jake Thomas (138th, 35:57).

As for the girls team, Abby Higgins led the charge with a 17th overall finish and a time of 20:57. 

Other finishers included Lila Sheehy (38th, 21:57), Aralyn Jennings (60th, 22:58), and Autumn Rae Odom (109th, 25:39).

Salamanca @ East Aurora 

EAST AURORA, NY — Aiden George paced the Salamanca boys cross country team with an 18:36 time at East Aurora over the weekend.

Behind him, Preston Smith recorded a time of 19:01, Denver Parson finished with a time of 19:34 and George Parsons finished in 19:35.

As for the girls team, Kaylin Lemon crossed the finish line first with a 21:56 time while Lailee Pierce recorded a time of 22:28.

MENS SOCCER

St. Bonaventure 0, Davidson 0

DAVIDSON, NC — The St. Bonaventure men’s soccer team and Davidson played to a scoreless draw on Sept. 20, leaving the Bonnies still in search of their first Atlantic 10 win of the season.

The Bona defense came up big in the affair as the Wildcats rifled off 17 shots, granted only seven found their way on target. Luckily for the visitors, Felix Schöne was up to the task of saving each and every shot he faced.

The Bona offense had a difficult time putting shots on frame, seeing just three of its nine find the target.

St. Bonaventure returns home for its next A10 game, set for Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. against George Washington.
