ST. BONAVENTURE — There was no shortage of offense between the St. Bonaventure softball team and Niagara over the course of their doubleheader on Wednesday.

Altogether, the Bonnies and Purple Eagles combined for 58 hits in the two games, scoring a combined 41 runs in the process.

The first game of the day saw Bona and Niagara in a tug-of-war with the lead, with each side matching the offense the other produced. In the first, fifth and sixth frames, the Purple Eagles saw the two runs they scored equalled by their hosts.

The back-and-forth continued for the full seven innings, forcing an extra frame. Niagara put the pressure on Bona with a run in the top of the eighth, but, following its pattern in the game of finding a response when it needed to most, it not only matched its visitors, but doubled up with runs on the back of a throwing error and a wild pitch, walking off the game 9-8.

Kymora Wang led the Bonnies, going 3-for-4 with a run and three RBI, in the first game of the doubleheader. Victoria Jacques also managed to generate offense for the hosts, finishing the first game of the day 1-for-3 with three runs and an RBI.

In the second game, the offenses of both sides kicked into an even higher gear. Niagara connected for 20 hits, doubling up Bona’s tally of 10.

The sides opened Game Two, once again, matching each other on the scoreboard with four runs apiece. However, while the Purple Eagles managed to maintain their high-octane offense, the Bonnies saw theirs slowly wane in comparison.

After scoring 13 runs over the course of the first four innings, Niagara cruised the rest of the way, recording a 16-8 victory and successfully splitting the doubleheader.

Karena Recrosio (2-for-4, 2 runs), Nolah Moyer (2-for-4, run, RBI) and Wang 1-for-4, 2 runs, RBI) led Bona in the second game.
