OLEAN — Aldermen came to Tuesday’s Common Council meeting expecting to transfer $30,000 from the Water Fund contingency to pay for cleaning and a video inspection of the two city reservoirs atop Mount Hermann.

Mayor Bill Aiello suggested using unspent funds from the $400,000 set aside for heating and air conditioning improvements at the Municipal Building to pay for the cleaning and video inspection of the reservoirs.

The mayor said Alderman David Anastasia, R-Ward 7, emailed him asking if there wasn’t another source of funding for the reservoir work besides taking it out of the Water Fund.

By using funds from the Municipal Building HVAC project, which will not happen this fiscal year, the Water Fund contingency will have funds available for use in an emergency.

Last week Water and Sewer Department Director Brad Camp said the reservoirs should have mixers installed to more fully mix chemicals added to the water. It would help keep sediment from building up on the bottom of the reservoirs.

The additional work will increase total costs to around $70,000. A robot will be used to inspect and remove sediment from the bottom of the reservoirs.

Council President John Crawford, D-Ward 5, said he liked the idea of doing everything at once.

Aiello suggested putting off the action of transferring money for the reservoir projects for two weeks.

Alderman unanimously approved a local law to issue warrants for arrest or filing default judgment after missing two City Court appearances for local charges such as code violations.

Aldermen also were unanimous in their approval of naming a long standing capital fund the Franchot Park Beautification Project. Aldermen Jennifer Forney, R-Ward 3 and Sonja McCall, D-Ward 4 are working on a proposal

that includes several upgrades at the park.

Aiello also issued a proclamation declaring September Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. He presented the proclamation to Ann Sorokes.
