After voting in the race between Sheriff Eric Butler and Democrat challenger Denny DJ Whitmore, most Cattaraugus County voters won’t find another down ballot contest.

From the top of the ballot asre contested races for President, U.S. Senator and Congressman. There are also four state Supreme Court Justice posts that are uncontested because they were cross-endorsed by Democrats, Republicans, Conservatives and Working Families Party officials.

Unless you vote in Farmersville you won’t find another contested down ballot race after sheriff. In the town of Conewango, there are no candidates on the ballot to fill a three-year Council vacancy.

In Farmersville, Town Justice Jennifer Holmer-Karcher, who is running for re-election on the Democratic and Republican lines, is being challenged by Melanie L. Brown, who is running on the Conservative line.

There are two other incumbent county officials in uncontested elections this year, Treasurer Matthew Keller and Coroner Bradley Spink. State Sen. George Borrello is also in an uncontested election.

There are no contests in the cities of Olean — where three Common Council members are running for re-election — and Salamanca — where the mayor and five candidates for Common Council are unopposed.

In Olean, Ward 1 Alderman JR Bennion (R, C), Ward 3 Alderman Jennifer L. Forney (D, R, C) and Ward 5 John J. Crawford (D, WFP), are unopposed in their re-election bids.

Salamanca Mayor Sandra L. Magiera Salamanca (D), and four aldermen — John A. Hill (D) Ward 1, Kylee J. Johnson (D) Ward 2, Barry A. Smith (R) Ward 3, and Michael A. Reed (D) Ward 4 — are all running for re-election unopposed. Candidate Paul L. Myers (D) Ward 5, is also unopposed.

The towns of Hinsdale and Napoli each have a local proposition to change the terms of town officials from two  to four years.
