SALAMANCA, NY — Seeking to avenge the narrow loss it suffered to Silver Creek just three days earlier, the Salamanca baseball team held a 2-1 advantage going into the seventh.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, revenge slipped through their fingers as an error and a walk meant that a single from Silver Creek’s third batter of the inning was enough to tie the game up and force an eighth inning.

The Black Knights would ride that momentum and came up with the magic once again in the eighth, scoring on the back of a triple and a single, consecutively.

No response from the hosts saw Salamanca fall 4-2.

Payton Bradley stood out for the Warriors. He finished the game with half of his team’s hits, going 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Madden Wolfe, Brandon Bartoszek and Parker Stahlman each picked up a hit in the loss as well.

Callum Farnum struck out six in six innings of work for Salamanca.

No response from Bradford in the bottom of the inning brought the mercy rule into effect.

PORTVILLE, NY — With a run apiece in the sixth and seventh innings, the Portville baseball team walked off Franklinville.

The Panthers broke open the game with a run in the first, but went cold soon after recording just one hit over the next five frames. Franklinville — searching for its first win of the season — applied the pressure, scoring twice in the fourth inning. But a run from Aidan DeFazio on an RBI single from Dylan Chudy in the sixth tied the affair back up. A single from Mason Adams that scored Liam Taylor called game.

DeFazio not only came up with a big run on the day but also emerged victorious in the pitchers battle, racking up 12 strikeouts in a full-game outing.

“I thought we hit the ball well tonight, but it was one of those games where it always seemed to be right at them,” Portville head coach Joe Pleakis said. “Aidan was dealing again tonight, 12 Ks and three hits in a complete game performance on his senior night. Demetrious Young was huge for us tonight. He gave us the spark we needed. Big shoutout to Mason coming in clutch with his only hit of the night when we needed it.”

Smethport made up the one-run difference in the fifth but after seven innings, the game was yet to be decided.
