OLEAN — Continuing cold weather forecast for Sunday Code Blue protections offered by the City of Olean and Genesis House.

Again on Sunday, the John J. Ash Community Center will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., as the city and Genesis House have teamed up to extend cold weather protections during Code Blue events.

Much of the winter so far has been a series of Code Blue events — day by day.

Located at 112 N. Barry St., the John J. Ash Community Center, will be open Sunday, Feb. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for anyone in need of warmth and shelter.

After 4:30 p.m, Code Blue hours will continue at Genesis House, located at 107 S. Barry St.

From now through March 31, Genesis House will be open every night to ensure anyone in need has a safe, warm place to go.

Anyone needing daytime or longer-term shelter assistance should contact the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services at 1 Leo Moss Drive, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m., or call (716) 373-8065.

Thank you to Genesis House staff for providing extra support today. This extreme cold reinforces our shared commitment to ensuring the community has safe, warm places and the resources needed during severe weather.

Together, we can protect our neighbors and keep our community safe throughout the winter months.

Mayor Amy B. Sherburne said the John J. Ash Community Center will be open during the day Sunday to provide relief from the low temperatures and significant wind chill predicted by the National Weather Service.

The center is also open weekdays for Code Blue events.
