TUESDAY ROUNDUP: Lady Gators volleyball, Portville boy’s soccer eliminated; Salamanca, A-L sweep at home

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – After breaking through to the District 9 Class A semifinals, the Port Allegany volleyball team’s championship hopes came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Clarion. 

Falling behind early with a 25-22 set one loss, the Lady Gators struck back with a 25-21 win in the second to even the score. However, from there the Lady Cats pulled away for good, winning 25-23 and 25-17. 

Jenna Renner led Port with 27 digs alongside 16 kills while Addie Taylor had 24 digs and Mady Errick had 19. Lily Lehmier had 18 digs and 13 kills while her sister Isla Lehmier had 31 assists, 10 digs and two blocks. 

Salamanca 3, Medina 0 

SALAMANCA, NY – Taking on the ninth-seeded Mustangs in the first round of the Section VI Class B2 postseason, the Warriors preserved their postseason push with a clean sweep at home. 

Salamanca took the initial win at 25-17 before fending off Medina in what would be the closest fight of the night at 25-19. Holding a 2-0 advantage, the Warriors cleaned house with a final 25-14 dispatching of the Mustangs. 

MacKenzie Crouse led Salamanca with a team-high seven aces. Thia Chudy ended with six alongside three kills and four assists while Joella Jimerson recorded six assists. 

Advancing to the quarterfinals, Salamanca now faces top-ranked Olmsted on Thursday. That game will be played at Olmstead at 6 p.m.

Allegany-Limestone 3, Catt-Little Valley 0 – Section VI Class C First Round

ALLEGANY, NY –  Defending their swamp, the Gators punched their ticket to the Section VI Class C quarterfinals with a sweep of Catt Little Valley, winning 25-22, 25-10 and 25-21. 

The seventh-seeded Gators now take on No. 2 Eden on Thursday in a road game slated for 4:30 p.m.

Wilson 3, Portville 0 – Section VI Class C Semifinals

WILSON, NY – Facing two opposing goals in the first and another at the start of the third, the Panthers were unable to keep their season alive, instead being eliminated in the Section VI Class C semifinals. 

After defeating Holland in the first round, fifth-seeded Portville moved through the bracket to see the best team in Class C: the Warriors. Wilson would win the race to the scoreboard midway through the first half, with Aidan Neumann notching the first goal of the day off an assist from Hayden Fellows. Two minutes later, they increased their lead to two with a score from Mason Schultz. 

Entering halftime already with a cushion, the Warriors sealed the win in the 41st minute with the final goal coming from Neumann. 

Portville ends their season at 14-2-3 overall.
