LITTLE VALLEY — Cattaraugus County voters elected a new county judge on Tuesday — Darrell Bloom, who is currently the county’s public defender.
Bloom received 20,063 votes on the Republican and Conservative lines.
Bloom has served as public defender since February 2018 and was reappointed last year to a third four-year term that started in January.
Bloom, who ran unopposed on the Republican and Conservative lines, will succeed Family Court Judge Moses Mark Howden, on Jan 1.
Howden was elected to the bench in November 2016. Having reached the mandatory retirement age of 70, he is retiring at the end of the year.
Howden served as county attorney before his election to the bench in November 2016. He was unopposed for the open seat that was vacated by former County Court Judge Michael Nenno upon his retirement.
County Clerk Darrell Klute was re-elected to a second four-year term, defeating Kristin Colburn 18,465 to 4,118.
Klute ran on the Republican and Conservative party lines, while Colburn ran on the Working Families Party line.
Klute was elected to the clerk’s office in November 2022. He was serving at the time as acting clerk after the retirement of former clerk Alan Bernstein earlier in 2022. Bernstein ran as a Democrat in his first election for county clerk and as a Republican in 2015. Klute was deputy clerk under Bernstein from 2016 to 2022.
Coroner Cleon Easton III was re-elected without opposition on the Republican and Conservative lines. He received a total of 20,878 votes.
