WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Lady Owls book spot in 3A Finals; Salamanca girls soccer avenges losses to Eden in playoff win

CLEARFIELD, PA — The Bradford girls volleyball team officially booked itself a place in the Class 3A Finals after sweeping Clearfield 3-0 on the road in three hard-fought sets.

The Lady Owls defeated the Lady Bison 25-18, 27-25 and 25-17 to book themselves a spot in the final against Dubois. Leading the way for Bradford was Emma Pilon, who finished with 13 kills. Alongside her, Haley Keane had 12 kills, Addison Carter had nine kills and Aliya Carignani finished with 39 assists.

Ellicottville 3, Salamanca 1

ELLICOTTVILLE, NY — The Salamanca girls volleyball team wrapped up its regular season with a 3-1 defeat on the road against Ellicottville.

The Eagles claimed the match 25-12, 18-25, 25-21, 25-12 at the expense of the Warriors.

Portville 3, Olean 0

PORTVILLE, NY — With its 25-17, 25-14, 25-14 sweep of Olean, the Portville girls volleyball team secured an undefeated league season and is just one win away from an unbeaten regular season as well.

Allegany-Limestone 3, Pioneer 1

YORKSHIRE, NY — In  its penultimate game of the regular season, the Allegany-Limestone girls volleyball team defeated Pioneer in four sets.

The Gators, after dropping the first set of the match, claimed victory by set scores of 20-25, 25-13, 25-22 and 25-11. Leading the Gators was Serena Frederick, who finished with 20 kills and eight digs. Behind her, Julia DeRose had 32 assists and six digs and Summer Rhow tallied 10 digs and four kills.

SECTION VI PLAYOFFS

Salamanca 1, Eden 0

EDEN, NY — The Salamanca girls soccer team dropped consecutive games to Eden to start its 2025 season.

But beating a team for a third time is always harder. The Warriors proved that adage to be true as they avenged their early-campaign losses with a 1-0 win over Eden in the first round of the Section 6 Class B playoffs.

Arleigh Chudy netted the game-winning goal for Salamanca with Kendra Bova-Redeye being a big difference-maker in net.

SECTION VI PLAYOFFS

Iroquois 3, Olean 1

ELMA, NY — The No. 11 seed Olean boys soccer team officially saw its season come to an end at the hands of No. 6 seed Iroquois in the Section 6 Class A2 First Round.

SWIM AND DIVE

OLEAN, NY — At the 2025 CCAA Girls Swimming and Diving Championships, the Salamanca swim and dive team just missed the county championships by nine points to the combined team of Frewsburg/Falconer 364-355.

However, there was still reason to celebrate as the Warriors had three Div. II Champions. The most significant of the bunch being the 400m relay team of Julianna Smith, Kynleigh Wass, Ava Chriss, and Addison Follman, who qualified for the Section 6 Championship with a time of 4:06.70 which was also good for ninth in the program’s all-time top-10.

The 200m medley relay team — also now ninth in the program’s top-10 — of Follman, Charli Ross, Chriss and Wass recorded a time of 2:07.45 and were also named champions.

Follman was the sole individual champion for Salamanca, claiming the 100 backstroke with a PR time of 1:10.27.

The Warriors had 41 PRs in total at the meet.
