ALLEGANY, NY – Taking the field for their final contest of the regular season, the Portville boy’s soccer team ended in dominating fashion, beating Pine Valley/Gowanda 9-0 on a night where they honored their prolific senior class.
Ahead of their last home game, the Panthers brought their six seniors to center stage, a squad that has combined for 29 goals and 19 goals so far this season. The powerhouse squad includes Colin German, Luke Edwards, Gabe Evans, Parker Keim, Garrett Reynolds and Vic Vena.
“Their impact has been huge. These kids have been growing up playing the sport together. They’re a close-knit group of friends which makes it unique,” said Portville head coach JJ McIntosh. “It’s always fun to coach kids like that. It makes the meshing process and teamwork kind of seamless when they’re all buddies. It’s a good group of boys. I always say I’m a lucky coach because I coach at Portville. I always tend to get really nice kids and this is no exception.”
Rolling the celebration onto the pitch, the Panthers quickly overwhelmed PV/G, netting the first goal of the night in the first minute and scoring two more in the next 12 minutes. As the time wore on, Portville continued to send a barrage of shots into the back of the net, ultimately cruising to their eighth win overall and seventh win in CCAA Division II play.
Up next, the No. 4 Panthers set their sights on the Section VI Class C postseason, where they will see No. 5 Randolph in exactly one week. The game will be played at Allegany-Limestone at a time yet to be determined.
