WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Allegany-Limestone, Port Allegany volleyball sweep at home; Bonnies, Panthers split Wednesday soccer

ALLEGANY, NY – Opening their season with a strong start, the Allegany-Limestone volleyball team pulled out a victory in the form of a clean sweep of Ellicottville, winning in three sets.

After dominating the Eagles in the first set, 25-10, the Gators met a wave of resistance in set No. 2. However, they managed to survive a comeback with a 25-21 win, putting them on the brink of a sweep. Despite a strong showing, Ellicottville ultimately couldn’t come out with a set win, losing No. 3 25-18. 

Cattaraugus-Little Valley 3, Salamanca 0

SALAMANCA, NY – In their first taste of action, the Warriors were swept by Cattaraugus-Little Valley. 

In the first two sets, the Warriors fell behind and stayed there, dropping 25-12 both times. Despite finding their footing late, Salamanca fell in set No. 3 25-22.

Hadleigh Krug finished with 26 digs while Jorja Miller defended the net with three blocks. 

Port Allegany 3, Smethport 0

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – Playing within the North Tier League, the Lady Gators earned an easy sweep over the Hubbers, winning 25-14, 25-10 and 25-12 on a night where they recorded 21 team aces. 

Lilly Lehmier reached her 500th career kill, finishing with 12 on the night, while also tallying three aces and 14 service points. Isla Lehmier ended with 26 assists and five aces alongside 16 service points.  

For Smethport, Alyssa Ayers tallied eight kills and 13 digs while Chloe Conn finished with eight digs. Taylor Edgar rounded out the day with seven digs. 

Otto-Eldred 3, Cameron County 0

ULYSSES, PA – The Lady Terrors added a win to their resume with an easy 3-0 over the Lady Red Raiders.

After facing their fiercest set of the night early, winning 25-20, O-E dominated the competition from then on, winning the next two sets 25-16 and 25-14.

Jahden Smith led the Lady Terrors with 13 points alongside an ace, six kills and five digs while Rayel Hakes ended with nine points, one ace, six kills and two digs. Emma Button ran the offense with 15 assists, also recording eight points, a pair of aces and one kill. Baylee Francis contributed 10 kills and six digs and Ayla Van Scoter rounded out the night with eight points, four kills and six digs.

MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER

Le Moyne 2, St. Bonaventure 1

SYRACUSE, NY – Despite getting off to a hot start, the St. Bonaventure men’s soccer team suffered defeat on the road to Le Moyne.

In the 12th minute, Gabriel Addo netted his first goal of the season, off an assist from Dean Mercer, to get the Bonnies on the board. Unfortunately, just 12 minutes later, the Dolphins leveled up the score through Francesco Pagano, who was assisted by Rhys Allport.

The tie lasted through the halftime intermission, but in the 70th minute Bona hearts were broken as Le Moyne bagged the winner via Andrew Piccolo.

Felix Schöne made five saves in net for the Bonnies.

St. Bonaventure moved to 1-3-1 on the season with the defeat and will return home for its next game against Canisius on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m.

Pitt-Bradford 1, Thiel 0

GREENVILLE, PA – The Panthers logged their first win of the season, beating Thiel with a goal from Yihao Xu. 

Xu’s goal came in the 49th minute after a penalty kick successfully found the back of the net. Pitt-Bradford’s lone goal would hold, earning them a victory in hostile territory. In goal Christopher House protected the crease with seven saves. 

 The Panthers improve to 1-1-1 on the season.
