Mercedes Gertrude Holliday, 103, of Whipple Road, Town of Napoli, passed away Saturday May 17, 2025 at the Gowanda Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
Mrs. Holliday was born on March 29, 1922 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late William A. and Gertrude (Keely) Bihl. On October 7, 1950, she married John Raymond Holliday, whom preceded her on November 6, 1990. She was a 1940 graduate of East High School in Buffalo.
Mercy was a self-employed Floral Designer and owned and operated Holliday Design in Napoli and had previously worked as a cook at R & M Restaurant in Randolph, Catering, Worked various jobs at Allegany State park, including, working for Mr. Charles Dock at the administration building, the Quaker Store, and at the Red House Museum.
She was a Communicant of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph and the Altar & Rosary Society, funeral dinner coordinator. She was a member of the Allegany State Park Historical Society (past president), Red Cross Nurses Aide, Randolph Garden Club, Boy Scout Troop Leader, Cub Scout Leader, Randolph Golden Keys. She also taught ceramics.
Surviving are a son, John William Holliday and his wife Sandy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John and siblings, William Bihl, Rita Bihl and Dolores Schwartz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday (May 22, 2025) in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Randolph with Rev. Donald Watkins as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the South Napoli Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4 to 6:30 followed by an Altar & Rosary Society service at 6:45 PM. in the VAN RENSSELAER and SON FUNERAL HOME, 14 Church Street, Randolph.
