ELDRED, PA – In their worst loss of the season, the Otto-Eldred baseball team witnessed Coudersport plant their flag on their home diamond, beating the Terrors 15-0 in three innings.

Ahead of the meeting with the Falcons, O-E had been on a hot streak. After suffering a loss to open the season, the Terrors strung together three consecutive wins, beating Northern Potter, Oswayo Valley and Smethport, all of which are Allegheny Mountain League opponents, by a combined score of 25-8. However, Coudy was enjoying a successful start to their 2025 campaign as well, entering Monday’s contest at 3-2.

The Terrors dug themselves a hole early. Despite getting two outs in the first four batters, O-E allowed the Falcons to load the bases with a single, a full-count walk and a hit batter. From there, back-to-back walks and an error in the infield allowed Coudy to quickly tack on the first three scores of the day before finally getting out No. 3.

In terms of a response, the Terrors found two quick outs but ultimately put men on base with two walks. However, a strikeout immediately after would leave them stranded.

Coudy would double down in the second. Whereas they were patient in the count and allowed the game to come to them in the first frame, the Falcons were aggressive in the second, eager to take advantage of any mistakes. And there were quite a few from the Terrors.

Getting back to the top of the order to start the second inning, Mitchell Taylor would kick things off with a single, then stealing second before making it to third on a dropped pitch that also allowed Danny Van Vladricken to reach first. Another single, this time from Mason Roessner would drive in the pair, putting the Falcons up by five early on.

After getting the first out right after, O-E would witness the Falcons’ lead grow exponentially, either by self-inflicted error or well placed hits. By the time the Terrors got the third out, the lead had grown to double-digits.

“I’m not going to lie, I was excited coming into this one because both teams were starting true freshmen as pitchers and catchers. I thought it was going to be a really good matchup,” said Otto-Eldred head coach Lance Baker. “They executed and we didn’t. It’s that simple. I thought Ryan (Schenfield) pitched pretty decently to start the game, his first start as a freshman, we just didn’t make any plays behind him.”

O-E would once again pick up two quick outs in the bottom of the second, but three consecutive outs put them in scoring position once again. However, their chance to muster some momentum fell short once again, leaving all three men stranded.

Coudy drove the final nail in during the third. Getting a man on first and third, they would score four more runs over the next four batters. With two outs, Roessner smacked a single through the infield that put the Falcons up 15-0 and on the verge of a mercy rule win.

With their backs against a wall, the Terrors couldn’t put a dent into the deficit. After another two outs in two batters, O-E would repeat the cycle of loading the bases with three straight walks. Yet, having a man just 90 feet from home plate, they weren’t able to close the gap, striking out and suffering their second loss of the year via no hitter.

“We have a saying in our programs that win or lose, you forget about it at midnight. We have to move on,” said Baker. “Yeah, it’s a three-inning loss but we had the bases loaded in the second and third too, but we didn’t play well in the field and we didn’t respond with the bats. We’ll sleep on this one and the good thing is we have two more (games) this week to try to get a win.”
