Gates open Saturday morning for 183rd Cattaraugus County Fair; Friday last day for discount tickets

LITTLE VALLEY — The gates open Saturday at 8 a.m. for the 183rd Cattaraugus County Fair’s eight-day run.

Midway and infield rides were brought in and set up by crews beginning on Wednesday.

Discount admission tickets are available until the end of business on Friday. The $14 tickets are $3 off regular price admission, which includes midway rides and grounds entertainment.

Discount tickets are available until the close of business on Friday at: the fair office, 501 Erie St., Little Valley; all Cattaraugus County Bank locations, Community Bank locations, Highpoint Credit Union locations, South Dayton Super Duper and online via etix.com.

Grandstand booths, food trailers, game booths on the midway and infield are set up and ready to go, as is the 4-H Snack Shack and grill at the horse arena. Permanent food stops outside the grandstand including the Little Valley Fire Department and Napoli United Methodist Church are ready to go as well.

Saturday morning’s opening includes the antique tractor pull. Older tractors and their operators pull sand-weighted sleds for distance.

The end of a pull often results in the tractor’s front wheels rising as the back wheels spin in the dirt. It’s all good natured competition.

Competition among 4-H equestrians heats up with horse jumping beginning at noon at the horse arena.

The midway opens at 1 p.m., followed by the Parade of Animals at 3 o’clock, Open Beef Show at 4 o’clock and first demolition derby at 7 p.m. in front of the grandstand. A second demolition derby will be held Monday night.

Tuesday night, country music singer Dylan Scott will perform in front of the grandstand, followed Wednesday night by country music performer Sammy Kershaw.

Noon – 4-H/FFA Meat Goat Show followed by Dairy

6 p.m. – Open Beef Release
