Friday Roundup: Olean, O-E girls break two different streaks; Panthers fall to Gowanda

FREDONIA, NY – The Olean girls basketball team snapped its eight-game losing streak with a big win on the road over Fredonia.

After a slow start from both sides, the Huskies’ offense found its spark and compiled 43 of their 51 points over the course of the final three quarters.

Alaina Hirliman paced the Huskies with an outstanding 26-point performance. Anna Bates provided 16 points as well in support.

FREWSBURG, NY – The Lady Panthers’ suffered their third loss in a row at the hands of a of the Lady Bears. 

Ava Jo Edwards led the Lady Panthers in scoring with 11 points while Emma Rhinehart had five points alongside seven rebounds and three assists. Ali Haynes had six rebounds and three points.

Oswayo Valley 24, Otto-Eldred 16

SHINGLEHOUSE, PA – In a stunning upset, the Terrors’ nine-game win streak ended by the hands of the Lady Green Wave in an upset victory for OV. 

An offense that averaged 44.7 points a night ground to a halt as O-E was held to single digits through two quarters. After taking the lead before halftime, OV sealed it with a 7-1 run through the final eight minutes.

Charlotte Austin-Keech led the game in scoring with 10 points, knocking down a pair of triples along the way while McKenna Manning followed closely behind with nine points and one 3-pointer. Carrie Drummond and Baylee Franics led O-E in points with four each.

DUNKIRK, NY — Two 17-point performances from Leilene McComber and Maliyah Foster led Salamanca to a big bounce-back win on the road.

But the scoring was not limited to those two, Makenzie Crouse and Madisyn Lafferty supplied two 14-point performances as well as the Warriors cruised to a victory.

PORTVILLE, NY – Despite three Panthers reaching double-digit scoring figures, Portville was unable to overcome the deficit as they lost their second game in a row. 

Aidan DeFazio was at the tip of the spear, scoring 26 points, while Braedon Carter finished with 11 and Chase Armstrong ended with 10.

Girls Wrestling

Salamanca’s Bova-Redeye, Mohr and Bacelli grab wins at Lockport Tourney

LOCKPORT — Maelonnee Bacelli led the Salamanca girls wrestling team with two wins at the Lockport Girls Tournament, which included 25 teams from Section 6.

Bacelli went 2-2 at the tournament, her two wins coming via pin. In the consolation rounds. Kendra Bova-Redeye and Madison Mohr both went 1-2 on the night, the former getting her win via pin.
