THURSDAY ROUNDUP: Bradford Legion drops third straight; Oilers’ lead falls away late

COUDERSPORT, PA – Unable to stop an early Coudersport barrage, the Bradford Legion Post 108 baseball team suffered their third consecutive defeat, falling to Post 192 8-3.

After a solid start to the summer’s campaign, Post 108 have struggled to find consistent performances for a full seven frames. Entering their final game of the season, Bradford had lost to Crosby on Monday after seeing their five-run lead slip through their grasps before continuous mistakes against St. Marys handed them another on Wednesday. Although Bradford was able to get the bats moving against Coudy, their defense failed to come out with the same productivity.

In the opening frame, Tarren Reese collected the first hit of the day with a two-out single before being brought across home plate one batter later by a Talan Reese triple. In the top of the second, Bradford Ryder Iantorno kicked off the action with a lead-off double, eventually rounding the diamond with the help of a Lucas Wallace RBI-single.

However, in the meantime, Coudy antied up and doubled down. Three big hits in the first – a double, single and double, in that order – drove in their first two runs of the afternoon, a scoring burst that was repeated in the bottom of the third with a two-run double from Quinn Kratzer. Holding a 4-2 advantage, Coudersport all but sealed the game early with another flurry of hits, which produced three more scores.

Talan Reese led Bradford at the plate, going 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Max Gow went 2-for-4 with a run in Post 108’s eighth loss of the season.

Barring a makeup game schedule for either Friday or early next week, Bradford will next take the field in the playoffs, which start on Wednesday at a time and place yet to be announced.

OLEAN, NY – Despite finding an early lead, the Oilers’ 4-0 start was not enough to protect them from a second-consecutive loss.

After three scoreless frames, the Tarp Skunks began plugging away at a comeback, scoring a run in each of the next three frames before taking the lead with a five-run eruption in the top of the seventh. While Olean tacked on a pair of runs late, they were unable to get their head back above water, instead falling to 10-13 on the season.

Cooper Tarlie ended 2-for-3 with one RBI, followed by Grant Fournier’s 2-for-4 day at the plate that yeilded one RBI and one run scored.
