WESTFIELD, NY — Despite recording just one hit in its Section 6 Class C First Round game against Westfield, the Allegany-Limestone baseball team found a way to nab a 2-1 win.

To start the bottom of the fourth inning for the Gators, Conner Crowley and Dylan Rhodes reached base via a walk and an error, respectively. A wild pitch put them both in scoring position — meaning that a sacrifice fly from Bronx Foster and a ground out from Mike Questa was enough to bring both across the plate.

A-L had its lead without a tally in the hit column. Its lone hit of the day did not come until the sixth inning, but nothing came of the single from Rhodes.

Rhodes was busy on the day, as not only was he pivotal in getting the win with his offense, but as the starting pitcher he kept Westfield scoreless through 6.1 innings.

The Wolverines threatened in the bottom of the seventh, cutting the Gators’ lead to just one. But relief pitcher Caidyn Chouinard left the game-tying run stranded at second base, solidifying his team’s first playoff win since 2022.

“Dylan Rhodes was fantastic on the mound and Caidyn Chouinard slammed the door shut with two Ks to end the game,” A-L head coach Eric Hemphill said.

With the win, No. 13 seed Allegany-Limestone will travel to face No. 5 seed Brocton/Cassadaga Valley on May 26 at 5 p.m.

Southwestern 7, Salamanca 2

JAMESTOWN, NY — Offense was hard to come by for both Salamanca and Southwestern in their Section 6 Class B First Round affair.

Both sides tallied just three hits on the day, the difference being that the Warriors had their share of defensive miscues and struggles on the mound that gave the Trojans the upperhand.

The Salamanca pitching staff combined for 10 walks while the defense accounted for four errors.

Payton Bradley (1-for-2), Andrew McCormick (1-for-2) and Clint Northrup (1-for-3, run) each had a hit for Salamanca.

The Warriors finished the season 9-12.
