OLEAN — No injuries were reported when a fire broke out in an apartment at 450 Third Ave. about 12:59 a.m. Thursday.
Olean Fire Department Capt. Nathan Veno said two engines and an ambulance were dispatched to the scene in response to a 911 call of a smoke and odor report.
“Fire crews arrived on scene within three minutes of dispatch with two engines and one ambulance,” Veno said.
“Upon arrival, firefighters observed smoke and visible signs of fire coming from one of the two apartments in the structure. Crews were advised that the adjacent apartment had already been evacuated,” Veno reported.
Firefighters forced entry into the affected apartment and located a room-and-contents fire in the kitchen area.
“The fire was brought under control and extinguished within six minutes of arrival,” Veno said.
“Two occupants were temporarily displaced as a result of fire operations,” he said. “There were no injuries to civilians or fire department personnel.”
The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
The City of Olean Fire Department was assisted on scene by the Olean Police Department.
Veno said the fire department would like to thank a nearby resident for promptly activating the 911 system upon noticing signs of an emergency.
