OLEAN — No injuries were reported on civilians or Thursday when Olean firefighters responded to two 911 fire calls.
At 12:49 p.m., the fire department responded with two fire trucks and an ambulance to a vehicle fire inside a garage at 1620 N. Union St. The vehicles were on the scene within two minutes, according to Capt. Nate Veno.
Firefighters were met with a fully involved garage fire that threatened a neighboring structure.
“Fire crews stretched a hand line to knock down the fire while simultaneously limiting damage to the neighboring structure,” Veno said. “The fire was reported under control in the initial and neighboring structures within five minutes.”
Veno added: “No civilians or fire department personnel were injured as a result of this incident.”
A Cattaraugus County deputy fire coordinator and Trans Am Ambulance assisted at the scene.
Fire officials thanked residents for notifying 911 when the fire was discovered and those in the second residence that was threatened by the fire that started in a side-by-side recreational vehicle.
The second fire was reported at 2:40 p.m. at Paul Brown Motors, 1145 E. State St., where employees noticed a burning odor and contacted the fire department.
Firefighters found flames in the ceiling of a storeroom and knocked it down with a hand line within six minutes of arrival on scene.
Fire crews on the scene checked to see if the fire had spread before releasing the building back to the business owner.
Veno thanked Paul Brown employees for noticing the odor and quickly notifying the fire department. “This prevented further damage to the building and a potential complex incident,” he said.
