WEEKENDUP ROUNDUP: Renner leads Lady Gators to second win; Salamanca boys win Maple Grove Tournament

PORT ALLEGANY, NY – Led by Jenna Renner’s 23 points, the Port Allegany girl’s basketball team defended their home court with a 54-38 win over Coudersport.

The Lady Gators led with their defensive foot forward, stunting Coudy to just a single point in the first quarter. Port’s own offense was in full flow, as five Lady Gators entered the scorebooks to build a 12-point advantage. After finding her rhythm in the second with eight points, Renner  tacked on another 10 in the third quarter, putting them up by 21 heading into the final quarter where they would cruise to their second North Tier League victory of the season.

Alongside her scoring, Renner finished with seven rebounds and three steals while Brynn Evens posted a double-double with 11 points, 13 rebounds and six assists.

Boy’s Basketball

Salamanca 63, Maple Grove 41

MAPLE GROVE, NY – In the Championship of the Maple Grove Tournament, the Warriors emerged victorious, picking up their fourth win of the season.

Carlton Farmer broke 20-points again, finishing with 22 while Payton Maybee came away with 11. Dom Hill had nine and Payton Bradley ended with eight. 

Boy’s Wrestling

CHEEKTOWAGA, NY – Over the weekend the Salamanca Warriors Varsity Boys wrestling team competed at the Cheektowaga Chargers Team Dual Tournament. Unfortunately due to the number of forfeits given up by the team they lost to Rochester’s Webster Schroeder, Lafayette, Tonawanda, Hamburg, and Cheektowaga. 

The wrestlers who did compete this weekend excelled. Junior Chris Miller had two wins. Senior Thomas George, junior Conner Seeley and sophomore Jack Merrill had three wins. Sophomore Noah Longely had four wins on the day and Sophomore Kasen Hardy went a perfect 5-0 and received all tournament honors.

The team will compete again this Wednesday at Dunkirk High School with a Boys dual which will be followed by a girls dual.
