FALCONER, NY– In a back-and-forth battle of unleashed offenses, the Portville football team was unable to outgun Falconer/CV/MG, falling 48-36 and back to 0.500 with the Week 6 loss.
Although the Panthers cracked the ice first, scoring from a 31-yard pass from Aidan DeFazio to Kingston Loucks, and initially responding to Falconer’s retaliation, Portville would be overwhelmed in the second quarter. Holding a 12-7 lead after the first 12 minutes, they would be outscored 20-6 in the following period, looking up at a 27-13 lead heading into the break.
Portville managed to tack on back-to-back touchdowns to start the third, with DeFazio throwing a 13-yard pass to Adam Roe before Jake Ziegler carried the ball 30 yards into the endzone immediately after, however, the Golden Falcons retaliated with a wave of offense.
Scoring 21 unanswered points throughout the third and fourth, Falconer quickly buried the Panthers and insulated their lead. While Portville tacked on one last score late, a repeat pass from DeFazio to Loucks, there was simply not enough time remaining.
DeFazio came away from the Panthers’ third loss of the season with 243 passing yards, completing 12 of his 27 attempts and finding four targets in the endzone. Loucks ended with 83 receiving yards, followed by Roe with 72, while Ziegler tallied 138 rushing yards on 13 carries.
With two games left in the regular season, Portville next travels to Springville (0-5) before ending their schedule at home with a contest against CSP on Friday, Oct. 24.
