WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Panthers soccer falls in double OT; Salamanca swim, dive bests Gators

FALCONER, NY – After trading blows throughout the 80 minutes of regulation, the Portville girl’s soccer team’s matchup with Falconer/CV/MG would go down to not one, but two overtime sessions. There, however, the Golden Falcons would strike almost immediately, pulling out a 3-2 win. 

Portville’s Grace Gariepy carried the weight for the Panthers, scoring both their goals while Bella Morales came away with 12 saves while tending the net. 

The loss drops Portville to 4-2-1 overall and 3-2-1 in the CCAA Division I, where they hold the fourth seed. Falconer, on the other hand, boasts the second seed in league play at 5-1, also standing with a 5-3 record overall.

Allegany-Limestone 4, Jamestown 1

JAMESTOWN, NY – Three Gators found the back of the net as A-L picked up their second win of the season. 

Logan Potter would open things up with a goal in the 22nd minute off an assist from Kennedy Honeck. Although that would be the lone score of the first half, A-L would punch in three more goals in the second. Kai Wojewoda-Ko scored her first of two goals of the evening just two minutes after the intermission. Kennedy Honeck scored quickly after while Wojewoda-Ko would find her second score in the 45th minute. 

Salamanca 5, Franklinville 2

FRANKLINVILLE, NY – Ireland Fidurko led the Warriors to their fourth win of the season as she compiled a hat trick in hostile territory. 

Alongside Fidurko’s three, Weezy Brown punched in two more goals as Salamanca dominated the pitch. The Warriors now improve to 4-1 in league play and 4-5 overall.

Volleyball

Port Allegany 3, Galeton 0

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – On a night highlighted by Jenna Renner’s 500th career dig and 24 team aces, the Lady Gators tallied win No. 11 as they took down Galeton in three.

Renner also came away with six aces, 14 service points and seven kills while Lily Lehmier finished with eight kills, seven aces and 21 service points. Peyton Gordon had four aces and three kills while Isla Lehmier tallied 22 assists and three aces. 

Ellicottville 3, Salamanca 0

SALAMANCA, NY – Playing on their home court, the Warriors were bested by Ellicottville in three clean sets, losing 25-12, 25-22 and 25-21.

Liana Jimerson and Acelynn Jacobs both recorded eight assists with Jacobs also tallying two kills. Alya Newark had four aces and three kills. 

Salamanca drops to 3-7 on the season and 3-6 in league play.

Cross Country

Salamanca at West Valley High

WEST VALLEY, NY – Competing in what could be considered their toughest course of the season, the Warriors were led by a handful of runners earning their place on the podium.

In the modified girls race, Elliott Merrill crossed the finish line first, being joined in the winner’s circle shortly after by Brianna Childs in second. In the second race of the day, the modified boys, Kevin Dahlbeck took fourth overall and first for the Warriors while Jayden Barton finished fifth overall and second for the team. 

Kaylin Lemon finished first for Salamanca in the varsity girl’s race, taking bronze while Lailee Pierce came in fourth overall as she followed behind. In the boy’s varsity race, Aiden George also took third overall with Preston Smith taking tenth. 

Swim and Dive

Salamanca 101, Allegany-Limestone 76

The Warriors racked up their fourth win of the season with a dominating win over Allegany-Limestone. 

Opening the day with several first place finishes was Kynleigh Wass in the 100 and 200 free, Juliana Smith in the 200 IM and 500 free, Addison Follman in the 100 backstroke and Anna Martens, who picked up her first ever career win in the 1m diving with a personal record of 147 points.

The Warriors’ 200 medley relay posted their best time of the season with the quartet of Follman, Ross, Chriss and Wass. The 400 free relay of Wass, E. Martens, Smith and Follman grabbed first as well. Earning silver in the 100 fly, Ava Chriss earned her spot in the Salamanca Top 10, taking a seat at fifth with a time of 1:11.89. 

The Warriors ended the day with 14 personal best times, including Makenna McCormick in the 50 free and 500 free, Callee LeRoy in the 50 breast and 500 free, Laila Reitnauer in the 50 and 100 free, Arianna Acosta in the 100 free, Paiten Wilder and Bethany Ferraro in the 100 free and Kyla Hardy in the 50 free.
