MONDAY ROUNDUP: DuBois tops Bradford soccer; Lady Terrors, A-L volleyball sweep Monday matchups

DUBOIS, PA – In a rematch of last year’s District 9 Class 4A championship, the Bradford girl’s soccer team were unable to exact revenge, losing to DuBois 3-1. 

Going down early, the Lady Owls were able to punch in a score late, coming off a pass from Cami Sheely to Maddi Rimer. In goal for Bradford, Maddi Stark finished with seven saves.

The Lady Owls, who fell to 3-3 with the loss, now enjoy three days of rest before returning home for a Friday game against Brookville. That game is slated for a 6 p.m. start. 

Salamanca 15, Gowanda 0

SALAMANCA, NY – Scoring by committee and with a handful of Warriors registering their first goal of the season, Salamanca dominated their home field for a blowout win. 

Goalkeeper Kendra Bova-Redeye posted her first shutout of the season as the Warriors improved to 2-4 on the season and 2-0 in CCAA Div. 2 play. 

Port Allegany 3, St. Marys 3

ST. MARYS, PA – After two full halves and an extra overtime session, the Lady Gators were unable to break the deadlock, ending with a draw against the Lady Dutch.

Port’s Kylee Pelchy carried the offense on the night, recording a hat trick with two assists coming from Kailey Bartlett and another coming from Alayna Palmer. Hannah Taylor ended with 14 saves while tending the net. 

Volleyball

Otto-Eldred 3, Galeton 0

DUKE CENTER, PA – Facing another North Tier League opponent, the Lady Terrors made quick work of the Tigers, beating them 25-3, 25-8 and 25-7. 

Rayel Hakes ended with 22 points, 13 digs and three kills while Ayla Van Scoter tallied 14 points, three kills and six digs. Jahden Smith ran the offense with 20 assists alongside four digs and one kill and Baylee Franics rounded out the night with six points, nine kills and three digs. 

O-E improved to 5-0 in the NTL and 5-1 overall. 

Allegany-Limestone 3, West Valley/Franklinville 0

WEST VALLEY, NY – The Gators picked up their fifth consecutive win of the season via sweep, winning 25-9, 25-24 and 25-15.

Mia McCarthy finished with a team-high seven digs alongside one assist while Abby Covert ended with two. Mackenzie Goldsmith collected nine kills while Summer Rhow and Serena Frederick had six and four, respectively. Facilitating the floor was Julia DeRose, who tallied 18 assists and one dig. 

Girls Tennis

Fredonia 3, Salamanca 0

SALAMANCA, NY – Playing in the midst of a double-header, the Warriors were unable to pull out a win, instead falling to 0-6-1 on the season. 

In the first match, Salamanca was quickly swept 8-0 in both the first and second singles, before Sage Huff and Fiona McKune went down 8-3 in the doubles set. 

Emma Prey put up a valiant effort in the first singles of the second match, but eventually fell via tiebreaker 8-7. Betsy Leyva also rebounded in the second singles, but ultimately lost 8-6. Huff and McKune paired up again but were defeated by Olivia Balch and Michaela Mead 8-5.
