OLEAN — There’s a new squirrel in Olean’s Woodland in the City line-up.
Last Friday, a new squirrel dedicated to the late Police Chief Michale Luty was unveiled in Lincoln Park across from the Olean Police Department entrance.
The Chief Luty squirrel was sponsored by the Luty Family and brings to 29 the number of squirrels now on the Woodland roster. There have been 35 squirrels commissioned since 2007 when Woodland in the City was created by Amy and Bob Sherburne, Mark Barta and Evelyn Penman.
On May 1, the Greater Olean Area Chamber of Commerce unveiled Nutty St. Nick near the Santa Claus House in Lincoln Park which had been in an accident and out of commission for a couple of years.
The Luty Family commissioned Olean native Amanda Hulbert to create the Chief Luty squirrel.
It was unveiled by Hulbert and the late Chief Luty’s son, John Luty as other family members watched.
There’s also a Hometown Heroes banner across the street near the Police Department entrance dedicated to Chief Luty.
