OLEAN — There are national protests for Fourth of July weekend. Olean will be having theirs on Saturday, July 5, from noon to 2 p.m. at Lincoln Park.
Local Organized Protest\Actions will be hosting this event. This is in response to the bombing of Iran and the recent SCOTUS decisions, said organizers Jessica Davis and Brittany Binz.
“These are dangerous to American safety at home and around the world. It threatens the future for this country,” the organizers said.
“The demonstration will voice strong opposition to the recent bombings of Iran. These attacks were acts of war and only Congress has that right. Trump has once again ignored the Constitution. It is also to dissent from the horrible decisions from SCOTUS. These decisions will affect millions of Americans. It will impact fundamental rights and constitution principles” they said.
“In the wake of the latest controversial rulings by the Supreme Court of the United States, concern, outrage, and calls to action are spreading across the country,” Davis said. “These rulings, many of which roll back hard-won civil rights protections and increase the reach of unchecked executive power, are already being met with fierce opposition—not only from the public but from within the Court itself.”
Davis said, “The liberal justices’ dissents were not just legal counterpoints… they were blistering, moral cries for justice in the face of what many see as an increasingly partisan and ideologically extreme Court. Their words reflect the fears of millions who believe the highest court in the land is abandoning its duty to uphold equal protection under the law”.
“This is not justice. It is ideology draped in the language of law,” one dissenting justice wrote.
Across America, voices are rising in dissent, not just from legal scholars and elected leaders, but from everyday people who know that silence is complicity,” Davis said.
This protest aims to:
- Demand accountability from our Federal government.
- Call for international pressure to ease Middle East conflict.
- De-escalate regional tensions.
- Express profound disagreement with the Supreme Court’s rulings.
- Urge elected officials to take immediate actions to stop stripping away the rights of millions of Americans.
- To protect the judicial independence and safeguard constitutional rights and protections.
“We believe it is imperative for citizens to stand up and make their voices heard,” Davis said. “This protest will be a powerful display of unity and determination. We will not go backwards. This will send a clear message, that even in small town ruby red America, there are people who will stand up and fight for those whose rights are being stripped slowly away. What we do to the least of us, we do to all of us.”
She said, “We must not wait for more rights to be stripped away. We must resist. We must organize. We must stand in solidarity with those most impacted — Black and brown communities, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, workers, women, and the many others whose rights are being eroded.”
Davis said, “This is not a moment for passive observation. This is a call to all who believe in justice, equality, and democracy. The time to act is now.”
