OLEAN — On June 21, Olean High School is set to see four more names of alumni immortalized during its annual OHS Wall of Fame induction ceremony.
Paul Barber (1985), Tracy Wangelin (2005), Kevin Stevens (2010) and Wil Bathhurst (2014) are all set to be honored during the ceremony, which will take place at 9 a.m. in the OHS auditorium on the day.
The ceremony is open to the public and no reservations or tickets are needed.
Below are the names of this year’s inductees along with a brief biography on each:
Paul Barber — OHS Class of 1985
University of Rochester, BS Optical Engineering, 1989
University of Missouri, MS Engineering Mgt, 1996
“Excelled in football earning a two-way starting position as a sophomore playing offensive line and defensive end. Served as a football team captain and was a recipient of the prestigious ‘41-42’ Club George Burlingame Award as the OHS football team Most Outstanding Player. Selected to play for New York in the 1985 ‘Big-30’ NY/PA annual Football Classic. Fondly recalls the Olean/Bradford rivalry games, beating Dunkirk at Bradner Stadium to win the section, and playing at Rich Stadium in the playoffs. Also lettered in track joining the team as a senior throwing the shot put and discus. Was a National Honor Society student who also excelled in student leadership positions. Currently serves as the Senior Director of Operations and is responsible for the Teledyne FLIR Precision Optics facility located in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Gained his passion for the STEM field and studied engineering in part due to his educational experiences at OHS.”
Tracy Wangelin (Hendrickson) — OHS Class of 2005
SUNY Geneseo, 2010
“An outstanding three-sport athlete also served as a captain in volleyball, basketball, and track. Earned the 2005 Cattaraugus County Outstanding Senior Athlete Award. On the volleyball court, named a CCIAC 1 st Team All-Star and broke the school record for kills in a season with 222. On the basketball court, was the CCIAC Player of the Year, a CCIAC 1 st Team All-Star, earned All-Western New York 3 rd Team honors, and served as a ‘Big 30’ All-Star. In track and field, was a Cattaraugus County All-Star, team point leader, and a sectional qualifier in the 400 IM hurdles, discus, and the 4×400 relay. Showed academic excellence and leadership skills as a member of the National Honor Society and a SAC vice-president. Went on to play basketball at the collegiate level at Geneseo Community College and SUNY Geneseo earning the Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence. Earned a degree in elementary education and teaches at Avon Central School District, where she has also coached volleyball, basketball, and Special Olympics teams.”
Kevin Stevens — OHS Class of 2010

“A talented, three-sport scholar athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. Holds multiple records for passing and offense in football and earned the WNY Unsung Player of the Year award as well as the Gary Sage ‘Big 30’ Offensive Player of the year award in 2008. Was a member of the state basketball championship team in 2008 and played five years of baseball, as well. Crafted an outstanding academic record at OHS earning multiple scholarships. Was inducted into the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society for the New Visions program. Also earned high honor roll throughout his high school career. Motivated by the injuries that plagued his senior year of sports, went on to earn a doctorate in physical therapy from Daemen College, graduating with the highest GPA in the class. Returned to the area and opened Focus Physical Therapy of Olean PC ensuring area student athletes and the community have access to high quality physical therapy. Continues to serve the community as a member of the Olean City School District Board of Education and is involved in youth sports programs.”
Wil Bathurst — OHS Class of 2014

“An outstanding four-sport athlete participating in football, basketball, golf, and track. Earned three varsity letters in basketball, two in football, six in golf, and one in track. On the basketball court, earned WNY First Team honors, named a ‘Big-30’ All-Star for three consecutive years, and was named the ‘Big 30’ Player of the Year in 2014. Was also a finalist for the NYS Mr. Basketball Award and the NYS Gatorade Player of the Year. Member of the OHS 1,000-point club with 1,196 points scored. Played in the Far West Regionals and the NYSPHSAA Final Four in 2012 and 2014. Went on to play basketball at the collegiate level at both Cornell University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. A six-year varsity golfer and 4-time MVP qualifying for the NYSPHSAA championships in 2012 and 2014. A solid student-athlete who made the honor roll throughout his high school career. Went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Cornell in applied economics and management and a masters degree from UAB in communication studies.”
