Franklinville 14, Portville 8
PORTVILLE — The Portville baseball team saw its win streak, which had reached seven games, come to an end against Franklinville in its CCAA Div. III finale.
Portville, leading 8-6 entering the final frame of regulation, conceded two crucial runs that knotted up the scores. And without an answer in the bottom of the inning, an extra frame was needed.
Unfortunately for the hosts, their pain was only compounded as the visitors piled six more runs onto their total in the top of the eighth, an output Portville was unable to match.
Chase Armstrong and Izayah Edmund both finished with multiple hits for the hosts while Ty Kosinski struck out four and walked five in a seven-inning effort on the mound.

On the mound, starting pitcher Caleb Strade struck out 11 and walked four for the Gators.
Vinny LaBella recorded the only hit in the game for A-L as they faced an uphill battle against Fredonia’s starting pitcher Ashton Putney, who recorded 19 strikeouts and walked just one batter.

SALAMANCA — With its commanding win over Portville, the Salamanca girls track and field team clinched the CCAA Div. II league championship.
The Warriors were once again led by Ryanna Brady, a triple winner on the night, claiming the top spot in the 1,500m (5:13.4), 800m (2:38.4) and 3,000m (12:00.7).
Behind her, Izabella Milks won both the triple jump (32-02) and high jump (4-10), Summer Downey won the 400m hurdles (1:20.0), Leilene McComber won the 200m with a PR of :28.3 seconds, Jamila Nelthrope won the 400m (1:04.2), Paloma Haas and Aubrey Domres won discus (85-04) and shot put (27-4) respectively and Arleigh Chudy won the pole vault (7-0), setting a new a personal best which also puts her on the program’s Top-10 list.
The Salamanca girls also swept the relay events.
For Portville, Airiana Whittaker won the long jump (15-07) and 100m (13.7) and Emma Rhinehart won the 100 hurdles (:18.5).
“This team is so well rounded and we have decent depth in many of our events which has helped us find success this season,” Salamanca girls track and field coach Laurie Lafferty-John said.
As for the boys team, it also claimed a win over the Panthers, albeit by a narrower margin.
Kyle Lecceardone and Aiden George led the way for the Warriors with individual first and second-place finishes. The former finished first in the 200m and second in the 100m, while the latter won the 1,600m and placed second in the 800m.
Other winners on the boys side included Dakota Colts, who finished first in the 400m, Payton Bigler, who won the 800m, Preston Smith who won the 3,200m (setting a PR in the process), Evan Spruce, who won the shot put and Easton Chudy, who vaulted his way to first and to a seven-inch PR.
“Tonight’s win was a total team effort and every place mattered,” Salamanca boys track and field coach Michelle Hill said. “This entire team was one of the best overall groups that I have coached, from being academically eligible, their practice work ethic, their willingness to try new events for the good of the team, and they have just been fun to be around. Although now that we enter the championship part of our season and the roster gets a bit smaller, this group has set the bar high for next year’s team in many respects.”
