Suzanne Elaine (Hale) Putt, 75, of Hinsdale, passed away Tuesday (March 18, 2025) at the Olean General Hospital after a short illness.
Born May 10, 1949 in Olean, she was the daughter of James C. and Cecile W. Smith Hale, Sr. On May 20, 1967 in Olean, she married Walter H. Putt, Jr. who survives.
Suzanne was a hard worker and entrepreneur having started at the former Acme Electric Co. in Allegany for 10 years. She became a hairdresser and owned a shop with her longtime friend and business partner, Barbara Miller.
In 2000, she became an assessor’s aide under the tutelage of her aunt, Alberta Gaylor. A year later she was named the assessor, primarily for the Town of Hinsdale, but also for the Towns of Portville, Ischua, and Carrollton, as well as Friendship and Alfred in Allegany County. She retired from that position in 2022. Suzanne enjoyed crafts and woodworking and operated Moonlit Primitives, a ceramic shop in her home, as well as attending craft shows. Additionally, she loved shopping with friends and family, pedicures with her granddaughters, and long talks with her grandsons.
She dedicated herself to her husband and they shared 58 years of marriage raising their family, cooking, baking, fishing, and going to the casino with friends. She always looked forward to spending time with her brother, James Hale, Jr. and his wife Peggy from North Carolina.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Walter; 3 children, Brian (Lori) Putt of Maiden, NC, Brandy (Dennis) Nolder of Allegany, and Bobbi (Rexford) Elderkin of Hinsdale; grandchildren, Jessica (Sean) Matos, Bradley Putt, Jr., Tyler Elderkin, Logan (Jim) Drain, Emily Putt, Ryan Elderkin, Jacob Putt, Benjamin Putt, Landon Putt, Lynzee Nolder, Gavin Nolder, and Luke Putt; 3 great grandkids; a brother, James (Peggy) Hale, Jr. of North Carolina, and nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Bradley J. Putt in 2017.
No services are planned at this time. A celebration of Suzanne’s life will be held at a date and place to be announced.
