Today Bradford celebrated somber Memorial Day services in honor of our fallen soldiers. Due to impending storm predictions from the National Weather Service, many parades, parties and other more rambunctious functions were canceled. Nevertheless, McKean County residents held public ceremonies, and gathered as families, to decorate the graves of fallen soldiers.
On Sunday morning, at Willow Dale Cemetery on Hedgehog Lane in Bradford, members of the community, and veterans and auxiliary members of Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 212 gathered at the cemetery’s memorial for fallen soldiers. Commander Don Langley, US Army, of VFW Post 212 gave a speech honoring veterans and honors were placed upon the memorial in memory for each branch of the United States military services, as well as though who were affected by their loved ones’ service and sacrifice for country. Before the conclusion of the ceremony, when the graves were tended the members of American Legion Post 108 of Bradford performed a 21 gun salute, followed by Taps on the trumpet.
Saturday’s weather allowed many individuals, and groups of households to hold garage sales and tent sales, this Memorial weekend and Bradford Town-Wide Garage Sale day. The Bradford Area Public Library took advantage for a second year, since COVID, of the influx of travelers to hold their Big Book Sale on Friday and Saturday.
