HS ROUNDUP: Salamanca, A-L girls roll to big wins, O-E boys cruise past Coudersport

FREDONIA — After dropping two contests in a row, the Salamanca girls basketball team reasserted itself in the win column with its second consecutive win, topping Fredonia 52-29 on the road.

Leilene McComber led the Salamanca offense with a game-high 19 points. She was one of eight different Warriors that managed to get on the scoresheet on the night. Makenzie Crouse and Charli Ross had the next highest point tallies behind McComber, scoring eight apiece.

But it was not just the offense that clicked, the Salamanca defense held Fredonia to single-digit scores in three of the four quarters.

Southwestern 65, Olean 29

JAMESTOWN — Two 17-point performances from Ellie Pearson and Gianna Sirianni paced Southwestern past Olean.

Braya Beaver added 10 points for the Trojans.

Alaina Hirliman led the Huskies on offense once again with a team-high eight points. Anna Bates and Ava Finch finished with seven and six points respectively behind her.

Cassadaga Valley 59, Portville 40

PORTVILLE — Emiley Anderson and Aliyah Hopkins combined for the majority of Cassadaga Valley’s points as it defeated Portville.

Anderson and Hopkins combined for 47 points, the former finishing with a game-high 24 and the latter, just behind her, with 23.

Emma Rhinehart led the Panthers with a 16-point performance, but was the only member of her team to record double-figures. Addison Isaman finished just shy of that bar with nine points.

Allegany-Limestone 48, Dunkirk 14

ALLEGANY — Emerson Ortego’s 16-point display helped lead Allegany-Limestone to its third consecutive win, a romping of Dunkirk at home.

However it was not just Ortego’s effort that made the win possible. Maddie Kahm, Serena Frederick and Addie Fisher scored nine, eight and seven points respectively.

Boys Basketball

Otto-Eldred 64, Coudersport 35

COUDERSPORT — Manning Splain’s excellent 3-point shooting helped lead Otto-Eldred to a sizable win over Coudersport on the road.

Of the 22 points Splain scored on the night, 15 came from beyond the 3-point arc and eight came during a 24-point third quarter by the visitors.

Only four players from the Terrors managed to get on the scoresheet, but all contributed heavily to the point total. Shene Thomas finished not far behind Splain’s tally, scoring 19 points. Landon Francis finished with 12 points and Davey Schenfield recorded 11 as well.

Mason Roessner’s 12 points was the team-high for Coudersport.

BROOKVILLE — Despite 14-point and 13-point performances by Marcus Terwilliger and Tyler Simmons respectively, Bradford fell on the road to Brookville.

Terwilliger and Simmons’ solid nights of scoring unfortunately were left without backup from their teammates as only 11 other points were scored by the rest of the Owls combined.

Kellan Haines had a game-high 19 points for Brookville. He was helped along by a 10-point performance from Carter Mackins.
