Lady Owls win on Senior Night; Portivlle, Olean girls soccer split Thursday action

BRADFORD, PA – On a night when they were honoring their three seniors, the Bradford volleyball team was able to celebrate three wins as they swept Austin, 25-7, 30-28 and 25-15.

Ahead of their final match of the season, the Lady Owls recognized their graduating seniors Kendall Case, Lily Wells and Dani Ordiway.

While the first set came easy, the Lady Panthers would respond in the second. After taking an initial lead, Bradford witnessed Austin storm back, closing the deficit at 18-18. From there, it was a battle of inches. Both teams went back and forth, swapping the lead until finally the Lady Owls were able to string together two consecutive points for the win. With the wind taken from their sails, the Lady Panthers succumbed to Bradford in the third set.

Haley Keane had 10 kills and three blocks, Addison Carter had 10 kills and two aces, Lauren Perry had five kills and Lily Wells contributed six kills while facilitating the offense with 26 assists.

GIRLS SOCCER

Portville 2, Ellicottville 1

ELLICOTTVILLE, NY – After finding themselves down through 40 minutes of play, the Lady Panthers responded in the second, ending their regular season with a comeback victory.

In the 14th minute, Ellicottville’s Addison John put one in the net on an unassisted score. For the next 26 minutes, both teams battled it out but were unable to change the tide. However, after the halftime intermission, the Lady Panthers came back with a renewed focus. Tying the game was Grace Gariepy who took a pass from Gianna Aloi and sent it into the back of the net. Just a few moments later, Portville took the lead for the first time with a score from Aloi who pulled the trigger after collecting a rebound.

“I was very proud of the way our kids overcame some adversity tonight being down at the half and playing on a slow track,” said Portville head coach Mike Matz.

Jamestown 2, Olean 1

JAMESTOWN, NY – Hurt by a self-inflicted wound early, the Lady Huskies fell to Jamestown in their last game of the season.

Tied at zero, Olean was keeping up with the home team until they suffered an own goal. However, Jamestown would reciprocate the mistake as they gave away the lead. Later in the game, an unlucky bounce off the post put the Lady Huskies down, a deficit that would hold for the remainder of the game.

In the net, Emma Edwards recorded 14 saves in the loss.
