OLEAN — Aaron Gies, the Democratic candidate for New York’s 23rd Congressional District, and his wife, Katie, voted at 8 a.m. today at Bethany Lutheran Church in Olean.
“Voting this morning with my family reminded me what this race is about. Rent, groceries, and health care keep going up faster than paychecks. Too many young people are leaving the Southern Tier and Western New York because a good life isn’t affordable. I’m running to bring those costs down and invest in our small towns, so hard work pays off again and the next generation can build their lives right here at home,” said Gies. “Whatever your party, please get out and vote today. Polls are open until 9 p.m.”
Gies is a professor at St. Bonaventure University. His campaign has focused on the region’s affordability crisis and on more investment in rural communities. He won the Democratic nomination in June and faces Republican Rep. Nick Langworthy in today’s general election.
New York polling sites are open until 9 p.m. Voters can find their polling place through their county board of elections.
