Marlene F. Anastasia – The Matriarch of the Family
Devoted and Loving Mother, Grandmother, and Na-Na
Olean – Marlene Frances Boser Anastasia of Olean passed away after a long illness on Friday (October 30, 2026) at home surrounded by her loving family.
For the last few years, she had been under medical care with her children being her caregivers.
Marlene was born July 8, 1939, in Olean, daughter of the late Edward and Frances Allram Boser. On October 26, 1957, in Olean, she married Ronald R. Anastasia, who predeceased her on October 20, 2024. Ron and Marlene were high school sweethearts who shared 67 wonderful years together.
Marlene was a graduate of Olean High School, Class of 1957. She then worked at Clark Bros. as a secretary before getting married and starting a family.
Marlene was a great cook. She always had a good meal on the table for her family and their friends to enjoy. It was during these meals that the importance of family was taught. She was always there for her kids as their PTO mom at school, as their rebounder on the blacktop driveway while shooting baskets, as their taxi driver before they got their own licenses, and with Ron by her side…as their kid’s biggest supporters at all their basketball games. Marlene and Ron never missed a game! Marlene was also always about that “underdog” kid as she always found the good in them when others were unable to. She was also a huge animal lover. There was not a cat in the neighborhood that she wouldn’t open her heart and her pocketbook to, making sure that they were not only given a good meal, but got spayed and neutered along the way.
Marlene used to love getting together back in the day with her girlfriends for Card Club. Though many of her wonderful friends have passed before her, she still kept in contact with her dear friends, Jean Senuta and Jan Belvees. One of Marlene’s favorite things to do and something she looked forward to every year was the family outings at the casino to celebrate she and her hubby, Ron’s anniversaries. She was especially proud of her “granddogs” throughout the years; Justice, Lexi, Spanky, Bronek, T.J., Spunky, and Ozzy.
Marlene was always ready and willing to help anybody who needed it and never expected anything in return. She was very giving of herself and wouldn’t think twice about buying a family a big meal at Thanksgiving and Christmas, who otherwise wouldn’t have had one to enjoy together.
Marlene’s greatest blessings, in her eyes, were her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. She was truly a “Mama Bear”, with her family always coming first…no matter what. She cherished the moments when all her family could be together laughing and making priceless memories with each other. Throughout her entire life, she was the glue that kept her family intact. Even as her dementia began taking over her mind and body, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. She used to love sitting on her porch and talking to everyone walking by, and she loved to sing and laugh. The fact that Marlene still knew who her four kids were until the very end was an absolute blessing, right along with her being able to be taken care of at home.
Marlene will leave an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family. She will be deeply missed but will always be in their hearts.
Marlene was a blessing to she and Ron’s four children, Jeff (Tammy) Anastasia of Olean, Kim Bihler of Olean, Randy (Cathy Barrett) Anastasia of Glens Falls, and Lori Anastasia of Olean. She was a loving grandmother to her grandchildren, Mike (DJ Paone) Anastasia, Danielle (Christian) Adamczyk, Shawn and Josh Bihler, and Ryan, Lucas, and Antonio Anastasia. She was especially proud of her great-grandchildren who called her Na-Na; Nicolas, Anastasia, and Veronica (Ronnie) Adamczyk. She also has a sister-in-law whom she loved dearly, Marcia Lisi of Alpharetta, Georgia; three stepbrothers, Ronald (Susan) Menter, Walter “Joe” Menter, and Richard (Rita) Menter; Jeff’s stepdaughter Marissa Ketchner, grandson Lucian, and Fur Baby Legend, as well as, her wonderful nieces and nephews, and a special young man, Charles Perry who she referred to as her “adopted son”.
She was predeceased by her parents, Edward and Frances Boser; her in-laws, Ralph and Marguerite Anastasia; a grandson, Tyler Bihler; her brother Tom Boser; her brother-in-law, Clem Lisi; a daughter-in-law, Barb Anastasia; her stepmother Pauline Boser; a stepsister Carolyn Bucher; and a stepbrother Michael Menter.
The family will receive friends on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 4-7pm at Guenther’s Funeral Home, 1303 East State Street, Olean. There will be a mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, by Father David Tourville, Pastor.
