Olean, other communities hosting Fourth of July events to mark Nation’s 250th birthday

The City of Olean and other Cattaraugus County communities are planning a series of events to celebrate the United States’ 250th birthday this Fourth of July Weekend.

In Olean, Mayor Amy B. Sherburne invited visitors to the city to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday and make their Fourth of July memories here.

Olean’s celebration kicked off Thursday with bands playing at Rockin’ Oak Hill Park with Vinny and the Mudflaps, Stick Tights and Not Norman from 4-10 p.m.

The local celebration of the Nation’s birthday continues in Olean on Saturday with the Olean Oilers hosting Fourth of July activities at Bradner Stadium, where they will host The Dansville Gliders at 1:30 p.m.

Following the game, the stadium will open to the public with live music starting at 4 p.m. Headliners Timmy and the Kids will perform at 7 o’clock. There will be vendors in War Veterans Park during the event. Fireworks kick off at dusk.

The city is also sponsoring a concert in Lincoln Park on Saturday with Generations performing from 6-8 p.m.

Cruise the Union, a car show and vendor event on North Union Street will be held on Sunday. North Union Street will be closed to traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. from State Street to the Olean Center Mall roundabout.

The first of four nights of fireworks at the annual Ellicottville Championship Rodeo kicked off at  dusk on Thursday. The rodeo, on Sommerville Valley Road in Ellicottville, runs through Sunday. The rodeo runs from 7-10 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday.

On Friday, the City of Salamanca is hosting a kids bike parade at 5 p.m. Line-up is at 4:45 at Sycamore Park.

The Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino sponsors its annual fireworks display about 9:40 p.m. on Saturday. While there is no public onsite viewing, the show is visible from the surrounding area. In case of rain, the fireworks show will be held on Sunday.

Ellicottville’s Summer Music Festival at Holiday Valley will feature three nights of music on the slopes of the resort starting Friday at 7:15 p.m. with Mr. Brightside and Hair Nation.

A Pet Parade is set for 11 a.m. Saturday on Washington Street in Ellicottville. Free registration starts at 10 a.m. at Katy’s Cafe.

On Saturday, the gates at Holiday Valley open at 5 p.m., with The Fab Four, a widely known Beatles tribute band, and the Nerds, starting at 7:15 p.m. And Sunday, Cami Clute and Max Muscato perform beginning at 7:15 p.m., capped by Ellicottville’s largest-ever fireworks display.

Also in Ellicottville on Friday, the Ellicottville Distillery, 5462 Robbins Road, will host its annual Third of July music and fireworks show. Live music will be preovide by Noah Lee and The Stetsons, followed by the fireworks.

Many communities across the county are planning subsequent events to mark the Nation’s 250th birthday over the next two months, according to Crystal Abers, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of Economic Development, Planning and Tourism.
