THURSDAY ROUNDUP: Lady Terrors’ season, Portville’s undefeated streak come to an end; Port Allegany finishes schedule 10-0

ST. MARYS, PA – After sweeping their way into the District 9 Class A semifinals, the Otto-Eldred volleyball team saw their postseason come to an end, losing to the defending champion Elk County Catholic Lady Crusaders 25-13, 25-22 and 25-17. 

Rayel Hakes ended her season with a team-high 15 digs and 13 kills, also recording five blocks while Ayla Van Scoter tallied 19 digs and eight kills. Emma Button ran the offense with 29 assists and eight digs. 

Williamsville South 3, Portville 0

PORTVILLE, NY – Hitting their first wall of the season, the Panthers saw their undefeated streak come to an end at the hands of the Billies. 

After competing closely in the first set and ultimately losing 25-21, Portville found themselves lagging behind in the next two, dropping back-to-back losses at 25-15 and 25-16. The defeat to Williamsville South ended the Panthers 15-game win streak, 14 of which came via sweep. They now await the Section VI Class C postseason, where they hold the No. 1 seed. Their first match will be on Thursday, Oct. 30 at home, playing either No. 8 Wilson or No. 9 Newfane. 

Olean 3, Allegany-Limestone 2

OLEAN, NY – After fighting through a five-set slug fest, the Huskies managed to tack on their eleventh win of the season with an upset over the Gators.

Losing the initial set via 25-6 blowout, Olean responded with a 29-27 win in the second. From there, A-L retaliated with another long-fought win at 28-26 followed by an equalizing 28-26 victory in set No. 4. In the do-or-die fifth, Olean rose to the occasion, sealing their win at 15-11. 

Ava Moses led the Huskies with a team-high 17 kills alongside eight digs. Viktoriia Lozynska had 14 kills while Haylie Bednarski had 13 and 15 digs. Kaylin Kratts ended with 26 digs and Ari Finch finished with 45 assists and 14 digs. 

Both teams now head to the playoffs. Olean will enter the Class B1 bracket with the second seed, set to play Buffalo Academy of Science on next Thursday at 6 p.m. In Class C, A-L holds the seventh seed and will play Catt Little Valley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Port Allegany 48, Brockway 22

BROCKWAY, PA – Finishing out their season with yet another blowout win on the road, the Gators completed their second consecutive perfect regular season.

Port now eyes the District 9 Class A postseason, where they will most likely hold the top seed as they look to defend their championship.
