WEDNESDAY ROUNDUP: Port United, Portville suffer losses on the road

EISENHOWER, PA – Taking to the road for the first time of the season, the Port United girl’s soccer team was ultimately dispatched back home with a loss, falling to Eisenhower 5-1.

Kylee Pelchy added to her two goals on Monday with another today, this one being unassisted, while Dana Clark tended the net for 18 saves in the loss. 

Up next, Port United (1-1) will stay on the road for a Saturday morning game against Kane, which is slated for an 11:30 a.m. start. 

Boy’s Soccer

St. Marys 3, Bradford 1

ST. MARYS, PA – The Owls fell to 0-2 on the season with a lop-sided loss to the Dutchmen. 

Bradford’s lone goal came from Lucas Hinchman, assisted by Cole Blatchley.

After a two-day break, the Owls will return to the field, taking part in the Gators’ Cup tournament held at Allegany-Limestone High School on Friday and Saturday. 

Volleyball

Lancaster 3, Portville 1

LANCASTER, NY – Kicking off their season on the road, the Panthers were unable to find a way past Lancaster, losing in four sets. 

Out of the gates, the Legends took an early lead and kept it, pulling away 25-16. While Portville managed to counter with a decisive 27-25 win in set No. 2, they were unable to build on the momentum. In the final two frames, the Panthers fell 25-18 and 25-16. 

With no rest for the weary, Portville returns to action tomorrow. Christening their home court, they will host Olean at 6:30 p.m.

(The Bradford girl’s soccer game against St. Marys and Portville boy’s soccer game against Hornell were postponed due to weather. Make-up games are to be announced.)
