Olean- Veneranda M. “Vinnie” DeGiglio,”Beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother”

Veneranda M. “Vinnie” DeGiglio of North Barry Street passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Pines Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center of Olean, where she had been receiving care after a brief illness.

Veneranda was born on July 22, 1937, in Olean and was the daughter of Carmelo and Pasqualina Ferraro Reitano.

She graduated from Olean High School and attended Bryant & Stratton College.

On December 31, 1955, she married Giasone Mario DeGiglio, and together they had five children. Vinnie was sweet, funny, and loved by everyone who met her. Her smile had the ability to brighten anyone’s day.

Vinnie was a homemaker and loved to cook and host family gatherings. She was famous for her homemade pasta, sauce and meatballs, rice croquettes, and lentils. When she wasn’t cooking, you could find her tending to her vegetable garden, where she grew every vegetable you could imagine. Every fall she canned hundreds of tomatoes, peaches, and pears.

She loved to travel, especially on cruises. She also went on large family vacations, visited her relatives in Italy, and spent time in Singapore when her son, Carm, was there for work. Closer to home, she enjoyed shopping trips, garage sales, and outdoor gatherings.

Vinnie especially enjoyed spending time with family, both in person and through daily phone and video calls. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of her life. She was very proud of their accomplishments. She attended birthday parties, sporting events, dance recitals, and graduations. Most recently, in May, she flew to Georgia to see her youngest grandchild, Maria, graduate from Nursing School.

Vinnie is survived by her four children, Bruno Q. DeGiglio of Olean, Maria R. (William) Hastings of Geneva,

Patricia P. LeRoy of Olean, and Michelle A. (Ken) Heidle of Springville; eleven grandchildren, Brianna DeGiglio, Benjamin DeGiglio, Kaitlin (John) Hastings DiMaio, Daniel Hastings, Nicholas (Blaga) LeRoy, James (Shreshtha) LeRoy, Jason (Alecia) LeRoy, Kenneth (Kelly) Heidle, Megan (Brent) Schiele, Bethany Heidle, and Maria DeGiglio; and eleven great-grandchildren, Ava DeGiglio Bigler, Christian LeRoy, James LeRoy, Laurel and Oaklee LeRoy, Kenneth, Samuel and Mackenzie Heidle, and Owen, Rory, and Chloe Schiele, as well as her beloved cats Sophie and Sammy.

Veneranda was predeceased by her husband, Giasone Mario DeGiglio in 1993, and her youngest son, Carmen D. DeGiglio in 2022.
