BROOKVILLE, PA – A 22-point second quarter and 19-point third carried the Port Allegany football team to their seventh win of the season, dominating Brookville 48-28.
Although being held scoreless through the initial 17 minutes of play, the Gators found an explosion of points nearing halftime. Marching down the field with less than seven minutes remaining, Port posted the first touchdown of the night with a nine-yard score from Aidan Bliss. Despite Brookville retaliating two minutes later, the Gators tacked on two more before the intermission, the first being a 26-yard pass from Brennan Fillhart to Kellen Veilleux before Bliss collected 80 yards on the ground to give Port a 22-7 lead.
Bliss would find the endzone not long after, scoring on a 14-yard dash just two minutes into the third. Again, the Blue Raiders answered and again, the Gators overwhelmed them with a pair of touchdowns, starting with a 60-yard kickoff return from Nick Wilfong and ending with a 38-yard pass to Liam Hawver.
Although Brookville would tag on two scores of their own in the fourth, their late-game efforts ultimately went in vain as the Gators kept their record unblemished.
Bliss ended with another 200-plus rushing night, totaling 214 with three touchdowns to his name. Fillhart also reached the 200-yard mark from the air, completing nine of his 12 tosses for 222 passing yards and three touchdowns. Wilfong recorded 94 receiving yards while Veilleux came away with 70.
The Gators have just three games left on the docket before they make their inevitable entry into the District 9 postseason. First, they take on Otto-Eldred (2-5) on Saturday, Oct. 11 before facing Union/Allegheny-Clarion Valley and Brockway on the following Fridays.
Olean 21, East Aurora/Holland 14
EAST AURORA, NY – Three touchdowns from Domonick Hirliman, including one late in the game, salvaged the Huskies’ third win of the season as they fended off East Aurora.
Hiriliman got the greenlight early in the contest, scoring the first six points of the night from a 25-yard rush. However, after going scoreless for the first 12 minutes, EA/H snapped back with a touchdown of their own. Trading blows, the Huskies founded a deadlocked scoreboard at halftime, entering the break tied at 14-14.
Defense ruled the third quarter, as neither team could find an advantage. Yet late in the game, Hirliman rose to the occasion once again. As Olean marched down the field, he punched in what ultimately stood as the game winning score, clearing 10 yards to put the Huskies up by
seven. Unable to respond, the Tomcats fell to 1-4 as Olean rose to 3-2.
