MARYVALE, NY — A 68-yard closing kickoff return from Mykel Rivera would carry the Huskies to a last-minute 27-26 win over Maryvale, earning the final blow in a back-and-forth battle.

Although the action was limited in the first quarter, both teams would break things open in the second, starting with a 22-yard rushing touchdown from Domonick Hirliman that put Olean on the board first. Maryvale would respond soon after, marching to the endzone before finishing off their first scoring drive with a four-yard carry from Dominic Daly, however Hirliman and the Huskies would counter with a similar play to end the half, going into the break up 14-6.

Maryvale would draw within two points of the lead in the third, before both teams would begin trading shots in the final quarter of play.

Joe Mest would find Rivera in the endzone to open the fourth, connecting on a 13-yard reception, but their lead quickly disappeared with back-to-back touchdowns from Maryvale. Down 26-21, Rivera would receive the kickoff and take it back to the house, sealing a dramatic win for the now 1-1 Huskies.

Hirliman led Olean with 74 rushing yards on 17 carries while also recording 43 yards through the air. Meat completed seven of his 16 passes throughout the win, tallying 114 yards and one touchdown, while Rivera ended with a score and 58 receiving yards.

Salamanca 35, Springville 7

SPRINGVILLE, NY — The Salamanca football team put the full might of its offense on display in its C South opener against Springville.

The reigning Class C Finalists amassed 343 yards on the Griffins defense, with a nearly even mix of passing and running combining for the total.

Payton Bradley, the Warriors new quarterback for the season, showed great command of his offense once again, dishing three touchdown passes to Cam Bowser, who recorded 123 yards receiving on the evening. Bradley found his way into the endzone as well on the night as he picked up 54 yards with his legs.

However, Salamanca’s rushing leader for the game was Jesse Hill, who carried the ball 14 times for 97 yards.

On defense, Zai Escobar and Adrian Taylor each picked up a sack while Tommy George led the team with nine tackles.

DuBois 59, Bradford 20

DUBOIS, PA — Finishing their two-game road trip on unstable ground, the Bradford football team suffered their second consecutive loss as they were unable to contain DuBois, losing 59-20.

Tommy Langdon would reach the endzone twice for the Owls, scoring initially on a one-yard goal line rush before earning another on a nine-yard reception from quarterback Andrew Giordano. Logan Kohler recorded Bradford’s third touchdown of the night, carrying the ball 19 yards on the ground.

Finally heading back home, the Owls will next see Brookville on Thursday in a game slated for a 7 p.m. start.

“We are making really good progress. We gave away three or four touchdowns on pick-sixs and poor field position. You take that away and we’re right there,” said Bradford head coach Jeff Puglio. “The kids are starting to get confidence despite the scoreboard. We are really excited to get back under the lights at Parkway.”

Randolph 44, Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale 13

RANDOLPH, NY — After suffering a heavy defeat in its season-opener, the Allegany-Limestone/Hinsdale football team got off to a hot start on the road against league opponent Randolph.

Mat Burnett returned the game’s opening kickoff 67 yards to get the Gators on the board quickly. In the second quarter, Burnett, who tallied 62 yards on the ground, was able to make his second trip to the endzone on the back of a touchdown rush.

Nolan Zink had the second-most rushing yards for A-L with 38 while Greg Peck led the team with 34 receiving yards.

On defense, Peck accounted for 10 tackles while Aidan Coulter and Conner Crowley finished with eight apiece.

Unfortunately for the Gators, the tides of the game eventually swayed in favor of the Cardinals, who racked up 37 points over the second and third quarters and shut out their guests in the second half.

Redbank Valley 55, Otto-Eldred 28

NEW BETHLEHEM, PA —Despite Shane Magee’s impressive game both in the air and on the ground, the Terrors dropped to 1-3 on the season with a road loss to the Bulldogs.

As a dual threat, Magee led the Terrors on offense in a variety of ways. Using his arm in the pocket, he threw for 270 passing yards, connecting with receivers in the endzone twice and while using his legs, he ran for 134 yards, scoring once.

Wyatt Blendinger was Magee’s main target on the night, coming down with seven catches for 113 receiving yards. Dawson Welch had six catches for 79 yards while Tein Caldwell had two receptions, 78 yards and two touchdowns.
