August 24, 1948 – April 16, 2026

Olean- Teresa M. Malone passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at Olean General Hospital after a short illness.

Teresa was born in Olean on August 24, 1948, the 10th child of William J. Malone and Pauline Moore Malone. She was a 1966 graduate of Allegany Central High School.

Teresa was one of the first female mail carriers, retiring after 37 years with the Rochester, NY, postal service. Knowing that she helped pave the way for other women carriers gave her a sense of tremendous satisfaction. In addition, she had a natural-born talent in carpentry and mechanical repair—truly a well-rounded woman.

Teresa embodied all the best traits of a first-generation Irish woman. She was kind, compassionate, funny, and giving. Her siblings and friends, often to their chagrin, were frequent recipients of her fine Irish wit and shenanigans.

She is survived by two siblings, L. Thomas Malone of Olean and Margaret Malone of Olean. She was predeceased by two sisters and six brothers – Catherine Anders, Jane Nunamaker, Michael Malone, Richard Malone, William Malone, John Malone, Joseph Malone, and Roy Malone.

Per her request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Until then: Find yourself a comfortable chair, and pour a glass of wine. Let your mind wander to all the times she made you laugh until you cried. Nothing loved is lost.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Guenther Funeral Home, Inc., 1303 E. State St., Olean. Online condolences can be expressed at www.guentherfh.com
