Allegany, NY Bertha A. “Bernie” Eisenhart formerly of 4115 S. Nine Mile Rd. passed away Wednesday (March 5, 2025) at Field of Dreams after a short illness.
Born March 11, 1929 in Rew, PA she was the daughter of Harry and Lillian Blaisdell Ewing.
On November 22, 1947 in Olean she married William M. Eisenhart who predeceased her September 21, 2009. Mrs. Eisenhart was a 1947 graduate of Otto Eldred High School. After raising her family she graduated from Jamestown Community College in 1981 and in 1982 received her LPN degree from the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing.
She worked as an office nurse at the Olean Medical Group where she retired in 1988. She was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and a former parishioner at St. John’s Church in Olean where she served on the bereavement committee.
She was a former 20-plus year volunteer for the Olean Public Library and a former volunteer for Interfaith Caregivers. She belonged to AARP as well as Sixty-Plus and the Red Hats in Allegany. In recent years she volunteered in the office of Senator Cathy Young and in 2018 she received the Retired Senior Volunteer Program’s Outstanding Volunteer Award. Her interests included painting, gardening, puzzles and needlework.
Surviving are 1 daughter Joan (Mark) Hoffman-Williams of Allegany; 3 grandchildren Jason Sewell, Kelly (Harold) Graves and Nathan Hoffman; 1 great granddaughter Emma Sewell; 1 brother Melvin “Harry” (Kathleen) Ewing of N. Tonawanda and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Jean Sewell in October of 2020; 3 sisters Mary Sterling, Harriett Clark and infant Rose Alice Ewing and 3 brothers Walter Ewing, Robert Ewing and Raymond Ewing.
Friends will be received on Monday from 4-7pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd., Olean. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday (March 12, 2025) at 10:00am at St. Bonaventure Church. Pastor Chris Emminger will be the celebrant.
Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
