WEEKEND ROUNDUP: Red Bank bests Port Allegany; Portville soccer stays No. 1 in standings

PORT ALLEGANY, PA – A final breakdown in the fourth gave way to the Port Allegany football team’s third loss of the season, falling to their rivals, Redbank Valley, 12-10.

Hosting a team they’d shared the District 9 Class A championship stage several times in the past few years, the Gators set the tone early, finding the first points of the game from a safety as Jackson Young came away with a tackle in the endzone to start the second. In the closing minute before the half, Port built upon their lead with a one-yard quarterback scramble from Brennan Fillhart.

However, the Bulldogs wouldn’t enter the break empty-handed. With just 17 seconds left in the second quarter, Red Bank Valley marched down field, capping off their sprint down the gridiron with a 16-yard passing touchdown from Jace Clowser to Kaleb Young.

Although Port kept their slim 10-6 advantage intact throughout the third quarter, the dam would break in the fourth. Just 19 seconds into the final frame, the Bulldogs punched in the go-ahead score from a two-yard run from Peyton Kennemuth. Taking over, the Gators would be unable to salvage a response, falling to Red Bank for the first time in three years.

Along with his rushing touchdown, Fillhart ended with 176 passing yards through the air, completing 13 of his 27 passes (48 percent), nine of which went to Kellen Veilleux. Veilleux came away with 128 receiving yards as well as 25 rushing yards, while Chase Boyd and Ayden Bachman led the defense with three solo tackles each.

At 4-3, the Gators will close out their season with three more games, all of which will be played on the road. Next Friday, they will travel to Ridgway before ending their regular season campaign with matchups against Karns City and St. Marys.
