MONDAY ROUNDUP: Salamanca soccer tallies fourth straight win; Panthers rolls past Williamsville South

TONAWANDA, NY – A two-goal day from Addison Earley carried the Salamanca girl’s soccer team to their fourth consecutive win as they took down Tonawanda 3-0. 

The Warriors didn’t hesitate to enter the scorebooks, seeing Myla Galante firing a shot into the back of the net in the first minute of the game. While they had to wait over a full 40 minutes for their next goal, it would come in rapid succession. 

Addison Earley put Salamanca up by a pair with a goal in the 52nd minute before scoring again three minutes later, punching in her tenth and eleventh goal of the season. Up by a bunch, the Warriors then rode out the afternoon as they cruised to their eighth win of the season. 

Ireland Fidurko assisted on two of the Warriors’ goals, while Presleigh Jimerson assisted on the third. Tending the net, Gwyn Emborsky registered six saves in the win. 

Entering the final stretch of the season, Salamanca (8-2, 6-1) now sits in second place in the CCAA Division II standings, just half a game behind Randolph (7-2, 6-0). After a home game against Gowanda on Tuesday, the Warriors will take on the league leaders with a Thursday road game in Randolph at 7:30 p.m.

St. Marys 4, Port United 2

ST. MARYS, PA – Visiting the Dutch in hostile territory, the Lady Gators fell to 4-8 on the season as their offense failed to keep up. 

Kylee Pelchy scored both of Port’s goals against St. Marys, with Aleigha Reed and Alayna Palmer registering assists. Dana Clark had 18 saves while tending Port’s net. 

Boy’s Soccer

Fredonia 2, Olean 1

FREDONIA, NY – A loss at the hands of the Hillbillies gave way to the Huskies’ fourth straight loss.

Going nearly a month without a win, Olean now falls to 2-7-2 on the season and 1-6-1 in CCAA Division I play. With three games left on the schedule, the Huskies will first see Dunkirk on Wednesday at 6 p.m. before ending the week with Randolph on Friday at 4:30 p.m., both of which are on the road. Then, they will finish their season at home next Wednesday against Allegany-Limestone at 7 p.m.

Portville 6, Salamanca 1 

PORTVILLE, NY – Seeing the Warriors for the second time this season, the Panthers cruised to a fourth straight win, building momentum as they near the regular season finish line. 

Portville’s scoring blitz was created by the full cast, seeing six Panthers nab six goals. Colin German, Vic Vena, Lucas Lyons, Parker Kiem, Sean Gardner and Aiden Barber all found the back of the net in the win. 

For Salamanca, Andrew McCormick tallied the Warriors’ lone goal of the day. 

The Panthers’ win brings them to 6-1-1 in league play while Salamanca drops to 3-5. 

Volleyball

Otto-Eldred 3, Bradford 0

DUKE CENTER, PA – Inviting the Lady Owls into the Terror Dome, O-E kept their perfect record intact as they swept Bradford in three, winning 25-14, 25-20 and 25-15. 

Rayel Hakes ended with 13 kills and six blocks as she dominated at the net, followed by Ayla Van Scoter with nine kills and 11 digs. Emma Button facilitated the offense for 26 assists while Jahden Smith came away with eight digs and six kills. 

Portville 3, Williamsville South 1

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – A win on the road tallied the Panthers’ eighth as they rolled past Williamsville South in four.

Gaitley Maiolo ended with 14 kills and eight aces, followed by Ava Scanclon with five kills and five aces. Marissa Carls ended with 23 assists, seven digs and four aces in the Panthers’ win. 

Swimming and Diving

Salamanca 115, Eden/Gowanda 66

SALAMANCA, NY – The Warriors picked up their sixth win of the season with a strong showing against Eden. 

Juliana Smith finished first in the 200 free with Ava Chriss coming in right behind her in second place. Chriss also touched the wall first in the 100 fly, while Smith took gold in the 100 free. The 200 free relay quartet of Chriss, Smith, Kynleigh Wass and Lily John came in first while the Warriors took second in the 200 medley relay with a team of Wass, Chriss, Ella Martens and Karrah Furlong. 

Rileigh Hutchison and Anna Marten took gold and silver, respectively, in diving while
